September 21, 2008: I ran my first 5K race this morning! WOOHOO!! This is actually the first time I have run a total of 3.1 miles at one time!! My max up until now had been 2.81, so needless to say, I was nervous about the run! BUT---I DID IT!! THE TOTAL 3.1 MILES I RAN--NO WALKING!!!! ...

September 21, 2008: I ran my first 5K race this morning! WOOHOO!! This is actually the first time I have run a total of 3.1 miles at one time!! My max up until now had been 2.81, so needless to say, I was nervous about the run! BUT---I DID IT!! THE TOTAL 3.1 MILES I RAN--NO WALKING!!!! There were a total of 221 people in the 5K & I came in 156th!! My time was 34.23!! That is a 11.2ish minute mile!! WOW!!! Not bad AT ALL for a first timer!! I am definately feeling proud of myself. I was ready for it to be over though--I was really pushing myself to get up that last hill to the finish line--it helped to see all of those other people standing at the finish line cheering everyone on--great motivation!! Now I keep asking myself--"What's Next"?

I just read this in my October 2008 Runner's World Magazine and I absolutely LOVE it! I find it very inspirational and motivational--all of my fellow runners will understand!!

What defines me?

It is NOT the weight that I hate so much and carry around with me everyday. Although, if I let it get into my head, it will drown me in its depression!

IT IS the strong willed, never give up attitude that I have in my head that tells me to get out of bed and go run, or go exercise--because I'm not putting up with this "who cares, feel sorry for myself" cloud that had come over me!! There is a huge force inside of me (and you), that if you actually listen to it--it will take you to whereever you want to go and you can do whatever you want to do!! That is what defines me!! The strong, never give up attitude and pure stubbornness to not let weakness take over!! It is definitely mind over matter, just like they say: "If you don't mind, then it don't matter"!! I mind!!

Use that fire that you have in you!! Take charge of yourself and your actions!! I came to Spark People for a reason--and so did everyone else that's here!!! Do you still have your fire? Do you still have your Spark?? I bet you do!!!!



update July 10, 2008:

In late November 2007, I stopped--I just completely stopped exercising. I also stopped counting my calories, although I did keep an eye on what I ate. So, from August to November I lost a total of 15 pounds, which is not too bad--15lbs. in 4 months. I stopped because I ran out of motivation (for whatever reason) and then on top of that the scale wouldn't move anymore--I guess I just thought I would have much better, faster results than what I was getting. I got frustrated & just quit--that easily!!

Now, I have completely regrouped, recovered & I'm ready to start again. I didn't gain any weight back during my "break" but I am still upset with myself for quitting in the first place. I can't even imagine where I would be at now if I had kept going. This time I am going to change the way I do things. I'm going to make a plan and stick to it. If I have something to look forward to and something to work for then I am more likely to follow through--so that is what I'm going to do this time on my fitness and weight loss journey. I'm going to make future goals and commitments that I CAN'T back out on.

I know I can do this!! I WILL do this!! Nobody else is going to do it for me!! This is for ME!!!!!

August Goals:

*Continue C25K program and complete week 8 on the last week of August--DONE, completed W8D3 Aug. 31, 2008!!

*55 miles walking/running & 100,000 steps--DONE, 64.96 miles & 139,229 steps!!

*Lose 6 pounds--not completed, lost 3 pounds!!

*Do strength training 3X a week (Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday)--not completed!!

*Get 1273 Spark points for the month--DONE, got 1279 Spark points for the month!!

*Finish the C25K program in the first week of Sept.--DONE!! WOOHOO!!! GOAL MET!!!!

*Run my first 5k race on Sept. 21--my goals for the race are
(1) to finish (running or walking, but finish)GOAL MET!!!!
(2) to not finish last!! GOAL MET (finished 156th out of 221)!!!!

*Track my calories--GOAL MET (but I hated it the WHOLE time)

*Continue with my "Soar Into Shape" challenge--GOAL MET

*Do strength training 3 days a week (minimum)--I'll say halvsies on this one!! ;)

**Short term goal: 165 lbs. by end of September, 2008--I can not seem to get to this number, the closest I've been is 167!! I call it my "unicorn"!! :)

My Program:
I am currently trying to get into the routine of tracking my calories--it is something that I don't really enjoy doing, so I am trying to make that one of my main priorites!

I have increased my cardio exercise from three days a week to four days and I do strength training three days a week. I have added running into my exercise routine & am currently working on the "Couch to 5K" Program!! (updated: 6/20/08) COMPLETED C25K PROGRAM ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2008!!

I AM A RUNNER!!!!!!!!!

Joined the 2007 Fall Edition of the Biggest Loser Challenge here on SP!! I placed 3rd within my team!!

Personal Information:
I am originally from West Virginia, born & raised. I have a wonderful family & I am proud to say that my mom is also my best friend (she is awesome)!! I am currently living in California. I am a military spouse--United States Air Force.

Other Information:
I LOVE Danielle Steele books, she is the only author that I read. I have an almost 30 book collection of her books.

I like just about any kind of movie.

I am a HUGE Nascar Fan--LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!! GO #88 !!!!!!!!!

Inspiration is the time between when you start to run,
And when you stop to catch your breath.

Its when you feel most broken and, a friend lends you a helping hand so that you can mend.

When you feel like you've failed too many times, yet you still try again. When you want nothing more but to throw something out of a window but you smile and say, "That's okay maybe next time." instead.

Those days when you just wish you could get a moments time to yourself-- then you remember all of the love and support you have from family and friends...

When you decide tomorrow will be better will be better but today wasn't so bad. When some random stranger smiles at you when your having a bad day...

When life throws you lemons and you decide to make lemonade. When you do your best and someone tells you-- "You look great!!!"
