5/02, 20th Anniv. This pic was my wake up call. I carry it in my gym bag, it keeps me focused.
Me and my daugther (Team Phinney) at 2008 Ramblin Rose Tri-ath
In 2002 I was at my heaviest weight. I was 253 pounds, and was a size 24W. Depressed, miserable and lacking self-esteem I was at an all time low. I was desperate and started on the Atkins diet. Out of that desperate move I found that watching my carbs worked for me. I am no longer on a "diet", but continue to follow a low carb lifestyle, eating only "good" carbs and following the principles of Eating Clean.
I am forever resolved to continue to advance my health in a positive direction.
"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed". Prov 16:3
Personal Mission Statement:
The power in the above statement is in the word "do". Finally realizing that it's in my "doing" that God will bless my efforts. I've had to get up from the pitty party table and do something!
My weight ticker starts at 253, where I was at the start of my weight loss journey, in 2002. I was at 190 when I began SP. I am proud of my accomplishment prior to SP and want to incorporate that success with this great new tool. The weight loss has slowed and reflects a life-style change. But the motivation remains strong!
very short movie, please watch:
To make being 50 something as fun and rewarding as being 40 something was!
Healthy Eating - following a combination of Atkins and Sonoma Diets/Meal plans. Fewer processed foods and more fresh foods -hippy stuff.
walk 6 miles a week
bike 30 miles a week
resistance training 3x/wk
and whatever else looks and sounds like fun..hiking, walks on the beach, etc...
As the sun rises and morning air touches my skin I am reassured that I am blessed with a new beginning.
Today there will be certain duties and obligations that I must personally oversee. And throughout the day there will be busy work that needs my attention. But time is divine and priority must be given to God and one of His most precious creations, me.

"Love Will Conquer"
There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer;
no disease that enough love will not heal;
no door that enough love will not open;
no gulf that enough love will not bridge;
no wall that enough love will not throw down;
no sin that enough love will not redeem . . .
It makes no difference how deeply seated may be the trouble;
how hopeless the outlook;
how muddled the tangle;
how great the mistake.
A sufficient realization of love will dissolve it all.
If only you could love enough you would be the happiest and most powerful being in the world . . .

you are ABSOLUTELY influencing your daughters!! and what an incredible role model you are! you've stuck to your guns even when you thought it could be impossible and have been rewarded for your efforts. congrats on coming so far and changing your life when, i know, it's so much easier to sit there, eat and complain about how you look and how unhealthy you are. taking charge is hard work and if it had not been for my mom who knows what my sister and i would look like today. being that we're all on the same page, and my mother and i are married to health nuts too, it makes it much easier to stay on the right track. the rewards help too - the whole fam went out to a black tie affair on saturday and we felt AND looked amazing. a year ago i would have been dreading it and wondering what in the world would make me look somewhat good. now that fear is gone and i never want it back.
keep pushing yourself, you're so close to the finish line :)~ and thanks for the kind words!

Aww! Thank you - made my day!
Lisa - I felt exactly the same way. I started trying to lose weight and getting into shape at 46 and I was SCARED. I knew it would be difficult but it was worse than I expected. For weeks the scale would not budge, no matter how disciplined I was with my eating and exercise! I truly thought I had "broken" my metabolism. But there was no way I was giving up - I was DETERMINED to outwit the scale and the struggle, the work and the aggravation were VERY MUCH WORTH IT!
Don't focus on how much further you have to go but rather on how far you've ALREADY COME (and you HAVE come very far - you've lost THREE TIMES the weight you have left to lose - congratulations)! There's the proof that you have what it takes to make this work. Envision yourself at the finish line, right there with me, because you WILL be there - believe, work and be more stubborn than the scale...

Let me say this - you are a goal setter! And an inspiration to all of us!! keep up the great journey - I'm gonna be right behind you to make God smile at the end of my weight loss finish line!! Keep me in prayer - I know it's working I've felt so many paryer warriors out there for me. I hope to lose 20 pounds by Christmas. So far I've lost 7 pounds since joining SP. I'm mostly counting calories and walking! I give myself one day a week off to eat most anything, but find myself watching my intake on that day as well. A great bumper feeling!! (LOL)
