Diabetic And Getting Healthy

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in April 2007. Time to get healthy and loose 50 pounds. I want to be around for a long time and be healthy while I am at it. I do not want to be a burden on my family. I am 43. I have been married for 22 years and have and 18 year old daughter. They are my life and I love them more than they will ever know!

I am the Walking, Walking, Walking leader. I've been ill and am sorry I didn't welcome you immediately!! However, I hope you have seen the special goals you can use.

tracking blood sugar two times a day

The team would love if you participate in the games etc. That's a good way to get to know some of us.

As I recover, I will try to be more active as a leader. The rest of the team kind of leads itself because they know how important keeping track of blood sugar is and losing weight in a healthy manner. Walking is the emphasis here. I lost 75 pounds when I was active. I have only gained back 10.

When I start again, I plan to lose the same way. I watch the carbs..not eliminate them, I make sure I have protein, and my hardest...fiber. I don't like green foods. That makes it hard, but I am controlling my bs using my brain and metformin. :) I find that walking is the best ....brings down bs, makes me healthier, and makes me happy.....

Hi. I wanted to welcome you to to SparkPeople and ALSO to welcome you to To the Atkins team. You may wonder what is going on. Right now, we don't have a team leader. It seems (I don't really know ALL the details) that there has been a "falling out" of sorts between past team leaders of low-carbers and certain administrators of SparkPeople. I heard a leader or 2 were banned(?) from SparkPeople.
The Atkins Team was a REALLY good team for Atkins Way-of-Lifers, and I think we are slowly re-grouping. It is rather confusing sometimes to work with other low-carbers on other teams who are not doing Atkins, but it is still very helpful. Be active in them for awhile.
I started a thread on LC 50+ Women that has been very active and enjoyable for those who participate. It's called "What did you do good for yourself today?" How about we start a similar thread on the Atkins Team? Maybe we will revive the team!
