I don't even remember being this big. I guess you can forget obesity just like childbirth!
Wardrobe for SHAMAN'S MARK (2008). I played the character of Prof. Emily Brown.
Porking back up: NOT COOL! I've got it under control now and won't be going back!
Here's three pictures of me. The first is near my biggest. I was probably about 300 pounds there. In April of 2003 I discovered Atkins and it worked well. I lost 115 pounds, with the first 50 being easy. Then it got harder and harder to loose. (I now understand why.)
In the second picture I was about 185 - 190. I look thinner in it than I was because my arms and legs are hidden. That's where the fat likes to live on me. This picture was during wardrobe for Shaman's Mark and I believe that was in late May, 2005.
Next we have the porkier Lisa. This picture was taken in January 2007 up at the farm. I would guess I was 210 there and I actually put on another 10 pounds, maybe more, after that before getting my weight under control.
I haven't weighed in awhile, but I would expect that I'm about 190, 195 or so. I'm once again heading in the right direction.
I'm no longer doing Atkins, although I will always be fond of it and grateful to it. 115 pounds lost is a lot and I did it on Atkins. My problem with Atkins is that I got so good at avoiding the carbs and still eating junk that the caloric intake sabotaged me.
Now I'm a health food nut. There's a lot of additives I won't eat. I'll update this page more with that another day. I'm eating very healthily and enjoying "dieting" because it's not really a diet, it's a way of life. I'm eating complex carbs and the weight is coming off. I'm not doing anything different now than I will be doing to maintain my idea weight with the single exception of restricting quantity.
Okay, here's the scoop on our healhty lifestyle:
John and I have become very health conscious. Most of our food comes off of our farm where we eat more like American's did in the 1940s. We no longer will eat foods with MSG, High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), or regular corn syrup for that matter, artificial sweeteners, processed foods, hydrogenated fats or farm raised fish and soft drinks are a thing of our past. We limit nitrates, also. Wanting to avoid the hormones and antibiotics that are in most commercially supplied meats, we raise our own meat on the farm, all way down to our Christmas Turkey. Deer hunting and fishing are good providing us with a healthy source of deer and fish. We only buy rBGH-free milk and we free range our own fryers and egg layers. We use only real charcoal and we avoid lighter fluid. We also try to eat only organically grown produce that has not been irradiated or waxed. We use sea salt exclusively, walk daily, take dietary supplements and watch our weight. We are fortunate to have well water instead of chlorinated and fluorinated water and we avoid products that are not free of propylene glycol, sodium laureth sulfate and mineral oil. Our health is better than ever and we look forward to growing old together.
Summer 2009 update: I've gone back to Atkins to loose the weight more quickly. I'm able to still eat clean, which I love, but I'm impatient with the slow weight loss. I'm doing fundamental Atkins and using Ketostix. I love to measure the presence of ketones every morning. So far I've lost 139 pounds, most of it with Atkins. I'll reach my goal and then concentrate on eating clean. I truly look forward to the day!
Clean eating for a healthy life.
To get to a healthier weight, which I'm doing.
It's simple: Clean eating and portion control on Atkins. Read more about it on my SparkPage.
Once upon a time I lost a lot of weight on the Atkin's diet. Still on the diet I managed to put some back on. I now understand it. I was eating low carbs and taking in way too many calories. Yes, calories do count on Atkins! Now I eat clean, control portions, get my carbs from healthy sources and not junk food and the weight is coming off well. I'm living healthy! I love it and feel wonderful!
