I have had a weight problem ever since I was a child. I remember how focused my family was on it. When I was in fifth grade, I met a pediatrician who got me a diet I could manage myself and I became pretty empowered and lost a great deal of weight. When I went to college, when most people gain weight I lost and kept it off pretty well until after my first child. About the age of 40, I mentally became tired and threw in the towel. Unfortunately the pounds started to sneak up on me. At 55 I got on the scale and realized I could be considered obese. Also my blood pressure was up and my liver enzymes and my calcium levels were out of whack. I knew I had to gain control again, or I won't be able to enjoy my grandchildren.

I been with Spark People for just over four years now. I am not where I want to be but my doctors have seen a radical improvement in all the things that were going bad. I am still working toward my goal weight but enjoying life as it comes. I appreciate all the support that I have received from my Spark Friends and am committed to keep at it.

I haven't been sparking as much lately, just trying to catch up now. Been working in the yard, planting flowers, pulling weeds, fertilizing, etc..now that the growing season is here and it is warmer. I am assuming you are warming up too? I hope so! So looks like we have both been super busy. Thanks for stopping by. If you want to see my wildlife blogs...stop on by. Videos of Manatees on the first one and an eagle squawking on the newest one. Have a good day! Keep sparking! emoticon

That is cool!! You have an interesting back story! Really wonderful how you wanted to work with special needs kids!! Always appreciate teachers in this world...you have a hard job! emoticon emoticon Appreciate your telling me. Sounds like you're there to stay at least for now. Do you like to travel? We used to travel all the time before moving to FL. Once he retires we may take up traveling a little more of the out of state travels. FL just feels like being on vacation all the time anyway, so haven't felt the need. Now if I loved the mountains, that would be a different story. Been a beach lover forever...and glad to be near them now! Not landlocked like before!
I posted a blog just now of a manatee video and pics, maybe the sunny pics will warm you up some. Have a good night! emoticon emoticon

I was wondering what brought you to S. Dakota...born there? It intrigues me why people live in states like yours. I have always wanted to visit, since never been there. Plus, the fact that it has such harsh winters. I guess people stay most of the time, due to family or they like it and it is home. I couldn't take the cold and snow anymore in OH and had to move to FL. I was fed up with it! Scared me to drive more and more in the snowy, icy times. So glad we moved!! Stay warm! Sending you some FL warmth emoticon we were 84 today. Now that is the kind of winter I moved here for!! emoticon

I think we are the only people left from our Sparkpeople Class of January 2011!

I'm glad you're still hanging in, even despite your health challenges. Some people would let those things rob them of motivation - not you! Awesome! :)

Have a great day - and here's to 4 years!
