Hey! Thanks for the comment on my blog! I have a horrible time trying to run on treadmills so I have always stuck with outdoor running. I started out with following the C25K app on my phone, you can get it for free if you have a smart phone. If not I can message you the times of how you are supposed to run, how long etc.
After week 4 I mapped out a map to run on, basically 3.22 miles to make sure I was able to run/walk the whole 5k distance. After the app finishes (roughly 30 minutes) I proceed to continue running. First time it was walk for 5 run for 5, second was walk for 3 run for 8, then the last time was walk for 5 run for 10. Until you finish your distance.
Right now I am running a solid 25 minute stretch with walking 5 minutes before and 5 minutes after. Sadly it is still taking me 46 minutes to finish the entire 3.22 miles BUT it used to take me 56 minutes when I first started, so I am happy with the results.
I was never a runner until after some life changing events. It has become my "drug" and is so freeing. If you want I am more than willing to talk to you and be a support. It is rough at first but you can do it!
This is your window, you should totally thru hike next year if you get the chance. I have a little one now and couldn't dream of leaving her for 5 or 6 months. Not to mention I don't know how I'd get that much time off work. I likely won't be ready to do it for at least 18 years, I'll be almost 54! 1782 days ago
