My In-spark-ations

It's time to treat myself to the best treat of all--a healthy body. I can do this with the help of Sparkpeople because we are all in-spark-ations for one another. Health is one of the most precious things in the world. I love to eat, so I hope starting today I will eat my way to health!

My Goals:
Once upon a time, there was a famine. The fields did not yield wheat or corn. Berries could not be found in patches, nor apples or other fruits on trees. The people in the land called all delicious foods "kisses," and feared starving without them. In no time, the men, women, and children had consumed everything delicious and everything not delicious, and a sense of doom fell upon them. No longer could they savor health. Before long, travelers who passed through saw the need for help. Some returned to the hungry land because they knew what kind of food to grow and how to grow it. Others knew how to use the right foods together, and they reminded their starving friends to do the same. Finally--oh, not at first, but eventually--the people of the famine began to eat delicious food again. For them, it was like getting many many kisses! In the end, they lived healthily ever after!

(My goal is to be one of those people.)

My Program:
1. Drink my water.
2. Track my eating.
3. Walk daily.
4. Make friends.
5. Help others.
6. Plan.
7. Learn to handle stress
appropriately.

Personal Information:
My family is from the Midwest, but my dad was in the Navy, so I grew up on the East and West Coast. I live in Texas now where I enjoy my family, dachshunds, friends, and faith. I have retired from teaching secondary English, and I consider what lies ahead an adventure worth the journey. Every moment is new, every second a fresh beginning. I am grateful for life, especially whatever builds my character.

Other Information:
Charles Dickens is my favorite Victorian writer. I would have liked to have been one of his characters. I like to read him in the winter. David Copperfield is an enjoyable read, though Bleak House is probably Dicken's best. And, Pat Conroy with his Beach Music, Prince of Tides, and Lords of Discipline is a contemporary who has won my respect. I write poetry, enjoy lectoring at church, and love to kayak with my best friend.
