Rocking the Fitness Career
There's nothing in life more rewarding then losing weight--except helping others to lose weight and create a healthier lifestyle for themselves. That's were I find myself now. I just recently 'retired' (if you can retire at 29) from a ten year career as a hairstylist. It was an unfullfilling, low paying, high stress job that was starting to take it's toll on me physically, mentally and emotionally. My husband had had a similar issue with his teaching job and last year got his personal training certification. I've never seen him happier than he was working in the fitness field. It got me thinking about how I always said I'd be in shape if I got paid to workout. Well, now I do! This past March, I got my AEA certification. I teach water aerobics, I'm the swimming lesson supervisor and will be working towards getting a nutritionist certification in the next year! It's only been four weeks since I quit my salon job, but I haven't ever been happier. Last week I convinced both of the girls I run with to do the Marquette Marathon with me this September. I got my sister running for the first time about a month ago with the promise that I would do a mud race with her in August. My kids get more exercise riding their bikes while I run and in my attempt to save money on gas, I'm riding my bike more too! I've been stubbornly stuck at my current weight since December, but with the tweaky running injuries I've had, I'm just glad I didn't gain anything. Now, with the stress virtually out of my life and my running pains all but gone, I'm hoping the scale will finally start going down again. :)

My Goals:
1)Lose 3 pounds a month. This will put me at my goal weight by the time I'm 30. 2) Run the Cellcom Half marathon May 15, 2011 *finished in 2:50:47* 3) Run the Midland Half in Midland, MI in November '11 with a goal time of 2:45--circumstances kept me home, but I ran the distance with a rollerblade buddy and finished in 2:37:26!!!!!!!! 4) First Midwest Bank Southwest Half Marathon in Palos Heights, IL, May 6, 2012 finishing time 2:43:48 5) Get my HM time down below 2:00 6) Run 50 different half marathon or Marathons by the time I'm 50! Next on the list is the Marquette Marathon in Marquette, MI September 1, 2012
My Program:
I downloaded the Podrunner intervals Couch to 5K in 9 weeks MP3 files. It was great! I love the pre-recorded interval workouts. It makes it very simple to become a runner even if you have never run before in you life. I swtiched to Podrunner regular steady BPMs for the time between and then stepped it up to the Gateway to 8K 9 week program. After that, I followed the Cellcom training schedule for my race in May. I've done race schedules out of Women's Running magazine. I've gotten a few off Runner's World and coolrunning.com. I have several with different milage, run days and length to help me train for every race depending on the time I have between the races. I went through the P90X system to help with my strength training and to develop better muscle tone once and plan on doing P90X-2 this winter during the six month break between my early fall race and the next spring race.
Personal Information:
As a mother of two diabetic children, I need to lead by example. Exercise needs to be part of your life and heathy choices aren't just important--THEY'RE VITAL! I just recently got my Aquatic Exercise Association Certification. I have my own water aerobics class at the pool where I lifeguard and teach swimming lessons. I'll be getting certified in a very specific type of water class this September and will be getting my nutrition certification as well. :)
