25 pounds down!
I had realized for quite a while, that I really needed to get serious about losing some weight. I didn't necessarily get short of breath when doing things, but my heartrate would rise quickly, even with just the work of vacuuming or some other daily activity. I didn't like it, and I knew it wasn't a good thing. When I came across the SparkPeople site, I found the incentive and motivation I needed to start this journey.
I've had some health scares this past year....a routine mammogram led to early detection of breast cancer. Having had surgery, I will be starting radiation treatments within the next few weeks. I am grateful for early detection, and that I won't be requiring chemo. I've already lost 10 lbs., and am hoping I won't be set back by any side effects from the treatment. Age-wise, I'm heading towards 50, and I want to be energetic, living life to the fullest. Working in the hospital, I come across some very "old" 50-year-olds, and some very "young" 90-year-olds. I want to be that vibrant 90-year-old, and I believe it starts now....with a healthy lifestyle and an enthusiasm and zest for life!
1. To be in better shape...not get out of breath so easily with activities of daily living.
2. To look good, and feel great!
3.To have more energy.
I'm starting very slowly....making sure that what I do, is workable for me over the long term. I'm starting with increasing my water intake to 8+ glasses a day, and increasing my intake of fruit and vegetables to 6-7 servings a day. I'm slowly being drawn into increasing my activity level.
I'm 49 years old, a Reg. Nurse, working part time.
I have 3 young adult children, two of which are still in college, so we've got some revolving doors going around our place.
