I know what you mean about wanting to have an occasional dinner, birthday or celebration treat without getting derailed. I read another woman's story about losing 125 pounds on LCHF and she allowed herself to "go off" on 4 occasions every year but also recognized that when she did so she was going to have a week or two of intense cravings to deal with afterwards. For me, the jury is still out even though I'm leaning toward pure abstinence as a lifestyle. I have had people to dinner with 100% compliant meals and I did it the other way this week; next time I'm going more compliant. The important thing is really getting together, not what we eat. That biscuit I had was really good, though!
