67 years old and at least 56 more pounds to lose ...Half our county calls me "Miss Linda" from my nursing and daycare work for 26 years retiring in 2011...Happily married for 38+ years...Have a beautiful 35 yr old daughter...Time to get healthier I'm wanting to be a good example for her as well as healthy for life.
Intro to Sparks in 11/09; Health efforts escalated following two heart stentss on May 23rd, 2014. Then 5/15 I was diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis and peripheral neuropathy and told to prepare for life in wheel chair. Dec 1 2015 I had 8.5 hour spinal surgery and back reconstruction but am gradually coming back in strength, mobility and mental abilities ...will see how far this improves but am so thankful I am not in a wheelchair yet and not wearing diapers as first doctor predicted. Most of my efforts were in strength, endurance and mobility areas until I met my goal of walking a 5K with two canes 6/18/16. Then began an all out effort to lose weight and maintain this level of mobility.
With my return to Sparks I am decreasing # of teams and will also decrease some friends due to memory loss and trying to not overload the mental aspects of my day. Periodic challenges are good for my learning curves and finally beginning to see some success.

emoticon Linda! It sounds like you are going about Sparking the best way for you to reach your goals! There has to be balance, with a little bit of stretching of our comfort zones. emoticon Life is an evolving journey, and I am determined to enjoy my journey! I've found out what works well for me. I keep tweaking as I go along. There are boring days, some disappointments, but no real setbacks. Just feedback to help me continue to grow and feel good. I'm still learning to manage my Rheumatoid Arthritis. Going mainly grain free and eating lower carb has allowed me to lose weight and become 99% pain free. My rheumy doctor is one very happy guy! So is my primary care doctor! As for me, no pain is better than anything I could ever eat! LOL!
So build yourself a good, strong foundation of a Spark plan. Take your time and write everything down so you can reference what works and what doesn't. You've got this!!!
