I am a 42 yo sahm, 4 kids (16, 14, 12, and 10) that has a part time home business featuring scrapbooking. I have been diagnosed woth Metabolic Syndrome and have decided that while it defeated my dad at age 60, I want to live a long life with my dh and children. I know that my chances of success are slim whith the "I want it now" mentality, I have decided that it is the "long haul" I am interested in. I have been diagnosed woth Metabolic Syndrome and have decided that while it defeated my dad at age 60, I want to live a long life with my dh and children. I know that my chances of success are slim whith the "I want it now" mentality, I have decided that it is the "long haul" I am interested in. I need to lose a minimum of 50 pounds, and if I could lose an additional 10 that would be icing in the cake. It would be fun to find someone who is in familiar situations to share motivation and successes with. I am a midwesterner who travels yearly to New England and Colorado. I love to read, and I have habit of reading the inspiratonal amish stories between all of my other books. I tend to be a bit of a people pleaser, infact I took a forgiveness survey and as I filled out the boxes I thought wow I am a forgiving person only to find out that my results said warning you are in danger of being stepped on and walked all over. So I am trying to find my inner Katie Hepburn voice that I know I have and simply haven't used. Finally I aspire to be a better photographer - I am dangerous with my hybrid digital, but would love to learn why things happen with my camera. I think the preceeding dcescriptions describes me pretty well. If you find a connection with any of the characteristics I have desceibed - please consider dropping me a note... I'd enjoy knowing I am not alone in my quest!

Hi! I'm so glad you've created a SparkPage. I saw that you had joined, but creating the page makes it more fun, and easier to greet you!

The women of my family have been dying of Metabolic Syndrome for four generations, at an earlier age in each generation. I decided to be a survivor instead of a victim.

I was lead to the work of Dr. John McDougall. He has been successfully treating the chronic illnesses that plague our society -- heart and artery disorders, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, digestive problems and more -- for more than 20 years using diet and exercise, saving drugs as a last resort, rarely used. Twenty years ago he was considered a dangerous crank; now the medical community has caught up with him, and everyone is touting the virtues of a whole foods diet.

His program works. I have been a Type II diabetic for more than ten years. (When my diabetes educator saw my family history she said that my sisters and I were "time bombs.") I have never taken medication for it, and have still maintained excellent blood sugar control. Until I started mystery shopping three years ago my A1c reading was lower than most non-diabetics.

I have tended to follow his program just enough to manage my blood sugar and lipids. Those who follow it completely have achieved remarkable results.

I created the Whole Foods for Health team specifically to support his program and others like it, such as those promoted by Dean Ornish, Neal Barnard and The Cancer Project.

I didn't mean to run on so long, just to let you know that you're welcome to check out the Whole Foods for Health team. You can click on the icon on my Spark Page.
