Overcoming the Impossible

My name is Libby and I returned to Sparkpeople after a long hiatus. I had given up trying to lose weight in the past due to a very long list of painful medical conditions, an equally long list of weight-gain causing medications, drastically reduced mobility (due to pain) - and a sense of futility.
But here I am again September 23, 2013....with a renewed determination to become healthier in any way I can....given the physical limitations I still have. It's not been easy - but I will never ...

But here I am again September 23, 2013....with a renewed determination to become healthier in any way I can....given the physical limitations I still have. It's not been easy - but I will never 'say Uncle'!!!

A new chapter begins............and I'm optimistic.

My Goals:
To be HEALTHY and free of pain

To lose 80 pounds
(I lost 40 & regained 18 - but I learned valuable lessons)

To learn to eat mindfully - be in the moment. It's a very lofty goal.

My Program:
.count calories/WW points
.be aware of carbs.
.no night binges
.drink water
.exercise as much as I'm able

.

Personal Information:
I'm a young 69....with multiple health issues - all of them painful.

I live in Brooklyn, NY, in a historic park- filled neighborhood.

I love all things cultural; musical. I love the Brooklyn Bridge -- and NO! I'm not going to sell it to you!!

I'm a cancer survivor (lymphoma - 1996)

I make jewelry...it was my passion until I developed these painful conditions. I'm getting back to it slowly and will post photos on this page from time to time.

Mom to Lucy (see photos)

I have good friends and family spread all over the country.....but since I don't fly anymore, it makes it difficult to maintain a close relationship.

I'm a very independent soul....and I'll count on my friends on this site when I need to reach out.

Other Information:
Got a Kindle and rediscovered reading.
My arthritic hands make it difficult to hold a book open.....and this is a miracle for me.

I used to 'power' walk 25-35 miles a week. Now I'm grateful to walk 1-2 blocks a day.....slowly.

My adorable Lucy keeps me to her walking schedule (4x daily) religiously!!

Good morning Sunshine. I hope you are having an even better day today, and hope you can get out with Lucy soon. I hope you have many pain free days ahead.

I really admire your positive attitude through your painful trials and your will to live healthy no matter what your circumstances are. You don't let the bumps along the way get in your way, you always continue and re-evaluate your goals. You never give up and you are one strong admirable lady, and a sweet friend too.

Hugs!

Great to see you're on the up again, Hon!

Robin is not so good, it's the last phase but soooo hard when he's still eating and cleaning himself. I'm not falling off the wagon in spite of the stress, which is brilliant.

And yes, we Brits do have some unique turns of phrase - but then so do you guys! When I was on my first tour as a WRAF Air Traffic Control officer, there was a huge USAF base 3 miles from us (rather hairy as their jets on final approach used to descend through our visual circuit so controlling there was not for the faint hearted! I digress...). The controllers on both airfields used to have a chart pasted near the radar consoles, Brit
English and American English, just so there were no misunderstandings when we were controlling the different crews! Very sporting occupation!

HI

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

'Tipped it down' is an English phrase meaning that its pouring with rain. As in the rain is tipping down.
Spag Bol is Spaghetti Bolognaise. Its student slang, left over from my University days, way back when I was in my 20s.

We Brits have a very idiosynchratic way with our language at times emoticon

I hope your day is going well and that there is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
God Bless
R
