Overcoming the Impossible

My name is Libby and I returned to Sparkpeople after a long hiatus. I had given up trying to lose weight in the past due to a very long list of painful medical conditions, an equally long list of weight-gain causing medications, drastically reduced mobility (due to pain) - and a sense of futility.
But here I am again September 23, 2013....with a renewed determination to become healthier in any way I can....given the physical limitations I still have. It's not been easy - but I will never ...

But here I am again September 23, 2013....with a renewed determination to become healthier in any way I can....given the physical limitations I still have. It's not been easy - but I will never 'say Uncle'!!!

A new chapter begins............and I'm optimistic.

My Goals:
To be HEALTHY and free of pain

To lose 80 pounds
(I lost 40 & regained 18 - but I learned valuable lessons)

To learn to eat mindfully - be in the moment. It's a very lofty goal.

My Program:
.count calories/WW points
.be aware of carbs.
.no night binges
.drink water
.exercise as much as I'm able

.

Personal Information:
I'm a young 69....with multiple health issues - all of them painful.

I live in Brooklyn, NY, in a historic park- filled neighborhood.

I love all things cultural; musical. I love the Brooklyn Bridge -- and NO! I'm not going to sell it to you!!

I'm a cancer survivor (lymphoma - 1996)

I make jewelry...it was my passion until I developed these painful conditions. I'm getting back to it slowly and will post photos on this page from time to time.

Mom to Lucy (see photos)

I have good friends and family spread all over the country.....but since I don't fly anymore, it makes it difficult to maintain a close relationship.

I'm a very independent soul....and I'll count on my friends on this site when I need to reach out.

Other Information:
Got a Kindle and rediscovered reading.
My arthritic hands make it difficult to hold a book open.....and this is a miracle for me.

I used to 'power' walk 25-35 miles a week. Now I'm grateful to walk 1-2 blocks a day.....slowly.

My adorable Lucy keeps me to her walking schedule (4x daily) religiously!!

Feel better soon and take care of yourself. The flu has been nasty this year.

HI
Thank you for commenting on my blog again.

Lively nappies don't really exist. They are inanimate objects, I was having a little joke. British humour. Have you ever had something seemingly leap out of your arms, a can or a item of clothing? just because you haven't got a proper hold of it. In the UK we would call it a 'live one'

A hamper is a basket filled with goodies. We have a lot of food hampers in the UK, we give them as gifts at Xmas and Easter time. Baby hampers are baskets or boxes with sleep suits, socks, nappies (daipers), toys etc arranged attractively in them then protected with a cellophane wrapper and topped with a big bow.
Nappy (daiper) cakes are a bunch of nappies arranged in a circle, wrapped with ribbon and made to look like a traditional wedding cake with little socks inserted and rolled up to look like flowers. These 'cakes' are generally topped with a soft toy suitable for newborn babies. They are great fun to make and appeal to my creative side.

Hope that helps. Most of us Brits are quite used to translating our more idiosynchratic language oddities to others. We just make words up as we go along. English is the most evolving language in the world, so I am told.

We have been praying for you and hope that life is looking up.
Love Raffie

Hi Honey! A really quick note to say thank you for your message after hearing about Robin. I'll send a longer message in the next day or two but am off to bed now, here in the Old Country!

I see you've had some improvements , but if I've missed an update do please forgive me - I'm a bit busy just now as I've got to decorate a mountain of china two weeks earlier than planned, for a breed club stand at the forthcoming Crufts Dog Show. Groan.

As always, my thoughts and love are with you...

G'night to you and my lovely Lady Lucy!

JJ xx

Good morning Sunshine. I hope you are having an even better day today, and hope you can get out with Lucy soon. I hope you have many pain free days ahead.

I really admire your positive attitude through your painful trials and your will to live healthy no matter what your circumstances are. You don't let the bumps along the way get in your way, you always continue and re-evaluate your goals. You never give up and you are one strong admirable lady, and a sweet friend too.

Hugs!
