Three hour hike in South Carolina's Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. Bliss! Being fit = hiking.

I need to train to run the half in Myrtle Beach.

I have 17 pics in my gallery

The Ridge of Impossible Longing

There's a yurt in the Nantahala Gorge of North Carolina where we've spent three fall vacations learning to be an adventurous couple again. The boys are independent adults, one in a career teaching with a master's degree, the other set to graduate with a bachelor's in the spring. We have time now and we treat ourselves to fall again.

Here on the coast of S.C. the days are mostly sunny and warm in the fall and a week of colorful, falling leaves with cooler temperatures in the mountains is a vibrant contrast to our everyday routine.
We hike, we did some white water rafting....we inhaled and explored. It was glorious.
It made every hour of working out and eating healthy worth it. Fitness isn't just reaching goals set on cyberspace, it's the key to moving independently through life doing the active things you enjoy. We saw lots of older people on our vacations....the fit ones were in the rafts and climbing rugged trails; the others were eating or slowly roaming the antique and art stores we visited.
We need to eat and we love art, but I am so happy we are fighting the aging process and can keep doing the more adventurous activities we love.

Just wanted to let you know that people who have gluten issues do have problems absorbing nutrients for the most part. I was just informed today that I have celiac disease and will have to go gluten free. I have been on mega doses of iron and vitamin D as well as other nutrients and vitamins and still an deficient. This has been going on for years but the doctor told me today that maybe with changing my diet completely, I can turn some of this around. Nothing is 100% but the goal is for me to get better. I already have a host of other problems, so this just adds to the list.
Hope this helps you a little.
Blessings and hugs,
Helen

Thank you so much for the comment on my blog. It is appreciated. Maybe you could give me some pointers on how to get over the mountain that is exercise. I know the benefits. I know the importance. I know the need. I just don't know the motivation.
Anyway, thanks again!
