Starting all over again with weight loss and diet/exercise plan. Have been on Spark People for several years. Having arthritis and allergy problems has complicated my ability to get out and exercise. New dog to train and exercise as my help-mate to get outdoors more and keep me on track. Trying to learn what is the basis for my weight problems -- teaching classes to others who have difficulty losing weight and keeping the pounds off.

My Goals:
Getting to a healthy weight; helping my brain fight Alzheimer's disease; prevent more disease condtions; eat for the correct reasons; not waste food; help my husband with his eating problems.


My Program:
Trying to keep desserts out of the house; eating breakfast; increasing fruit and veggie servings; eating less fatty foods.



Personal Information:
Originally from L.A. -- moved to Oregon at age 5 years -- raised on a sheep ranch for 9 nine years. Oldest of 5 children. Moved to N. California (Eureka) in Middle School. Completed B.S. in Nursing; married a forester; moved 6 times in 12 years for spouse's job; had 3 sons; transferred to S.C. in 1986. Finished M.S. in Nursing in 1992 -- cancer nurse and nursing instructor and hospice nurse. Grandmother of 4 children -- one on W. Coast and 3 on E. Coast.


Other Information:
Love to read and watch movies. Volunteer at free health clinic and a school part-time. Member of local Disaster Team and attend a First Christian Church. Have 4 cats and 1 mutt dogs. Do pet therapy with a rescue group at area assisted living homes.

    Thanks for the blog comment. My Dr is a good Dr that works with me. He told me that i was active so although my tracker tracks exercise from work, I've always done that so i need something more. In my mind I only track intentional exercise and 1/2 of it has to make me sweat. As for food, he told me to learn what a portion was, no concentrated sweets, no fried foods, and no counting calories. Don't make weight loss a chore. eat when hungry, days you exercise more weather intentional or not you need more so listen to your body, just know the difference between hunger and thirst. works for my. I've lost 50 pounds.

    Yes, my heaven is in Oregon too. The sun is shining and it is suppose to get to 59 degrees today. Crocuses are starting to bloom and one brave camellia already bloomed. We have seasons, but nothing too harsh other than the unrelenting rain. But I have adapted my mind set to embrace that too. Thanks for the comments on my page. If you make it to Portland, let me know and I will meet you for coffee and tea somewhere.

    Yes, babies are dotting the fields everywhere. This has truly been a beautiful and perfect Oregon Spring. The last two years were wet and cold till July and then suddenly we had summer. This year is wet and sunny with the milder NW temps we are used to. The tulips, azalias, forsytihia and camelia are all blooming. I want to get to the Rhododendron gardens as they are probably blooming too with early bloomers. The daffodils look happy and even the dandelions and lawn daisies are peeking out. Happy Easter to you too.
