I've always had a "big" personality but for the past 10 years I've had the "big" body to go with it. A body that has been holding me back from enjoying most of what I love in life.
There was a time in my life when I taught two fitness classes a day, rocked a swimsuit as a lifeguard, danced, laughed, played, and felt great in the body I was in. I was fit, happy and healthy.
Then I dated a man who physically abused me (I ate and drank to comfort and/or numb myself) and after I left him, I couldn't stop abusing myself (or stop eating to comfort myself). A terrible habit had begun. I was lost, apathetic, and hopeless. I felt worthless, and proceeded to hide by burying myself under 120 lbs of extra weight.
Years later I married a wonderful man but hadn't faced my anxiety and depression. My food addiction spiralled out of control.
With all the knowledge and resources I would need, it was time to shake myself out of my self-indulgent, sugar-laden stupor and take back the responsibility and control over my body and my life. Because there are alot of things I still want and deserve out of this ONE life I've been given. If I wait much longer...this ONE life will be gone. The time for second chances is NOW.
So here I am...fighting my way back to health and happiness!
To enjoy the physical activities that I find fun, like swimming, hiking, skiiing, kayaking, dancing.
To feel my body responding positively to healthy food as fuel and not feel ill after I load up on sugars and fats for instant gratification.
To find healthy alternatives to meet my emotional needs such as calming down, speeding up, having fun...rather than using carbs, sugar, caffeine and alcohol.
