Redefining Me

Back in November 2007, I weighed about 300 pounds...but I only knew that I was "slightly" overweight. I dressed in dark colours and avoided having pictures taken of me. It wasn't until that "one" picture was taken, that I realized I was OBESE. Literally overnight, I knew that things had to change.

So I began walking the next day. After a week of walking I realized that I needed to improve my eating habits as well...The crazy thing about forming healthy habits - eating and ...

A little bit more - I will tell it like it is. This journey hasn't always been easy. Many people who ask, want to hear that I was able to sit on a couch for 2 years snacking on donuts, and the weight magically disappeared. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case...

I have come to SparkPeople to help me finish this journey. After 2.5 years I want to finish the initial weight loss and put this part of the battle behind me.

My Goals:
November 25, 2010 -34 pounds to go!

My biggest goal is to finish the process of loosing the weight. Granted, this is a permanent lifestyle change (and not just a diet!)...

- To finish the weight loss portion of this journey by July 2011 - 3 years after it began.

-To keep eating healthy, and keep working out!

My Program:
Eating a healthy, well balanced diet; I am not doing South Beach, Atkins, or whatever the diet-of-the-moment is. This is about a permanent change, that also includes portion control and not overindulging.
I have also combined this with daily runs/walks, and low impact weight training and crunches.

Personal Information:
I am from Northwestern Ontario - an area that seems to be proud of its ever increasing waist-size. Three years ago, at the age of 27 (and fresh out of university), I realized that I was less than thrilled with the "baggage" I had apparently aquired throughout my university days. Thus began the process...

Other Information:
I work in a school, as well as being a qualified teacher (though not teaching at the moment), and find inspiration in setting a positive example for the young people I encounter on a daily basis. I have become increasingly concerned about the often-deplorable eating habits that I witness being exhibited by students. I am further concerned by the growing rates of obesity among young people. When I was in school, obesity was reflected in a couple of students, and (unfortunately) those students were bullied. Now, obesity is commonplace, so much so, that it is actually shocking to see "normal-sized" students (for lack of a better term!). It is with these observations that I recognize the necessity for teachers and support staff to model healthy habits.
