I'm in my 30s, and have been married to my husband since 2002. We have two furry friends named Murphy and Kiki. Murphy, a yellow labrador retriever, is my husband's guide dog, and Kiki (who's a shorthair with tabby and white markings) is our non-working kitty.
I work as an Administrative Aide at a university. I have a masters' degree in Counseling but am not really using it currently. My forte is writing and editing, and web design, and I do a lot of those in my current job.

I've been overweight most of my life (except when I was a kid and I didn't really appreciate it). I've never been into sports or especially active as an adult. I have to motivate myself to get exercise. The outdoor activities I used to love were rollerskating (not inline) and swimming.
I've been a Sparkpeople member since 2006. In the last few years, I've been diagnosed with high blood pressure, and I'm concerned about my heart health. I recently renewed my weight loss efforts, and I'm even more committed to becoming healthier.
I need to lose around 85 pounds to be considered at a healthy BMI. As my initial long term goal, I'm trying to lose 35 lbs. I plan to lose weight slowly (around a half pound a week) and hope to keep it off.
I think eating smaller portions and eating healthier foods is important, and Sparkpeople seems to promote that. Healthier foods would of course include getting more fruits and vegetables into my diet, and less processed foods like cookies and foods high in fat and sugar.
I also plan to exercise nearly every day--at least 10 minutes at first, and building up to 30-60 minutes. Most of my exercising will probably be walking (indoors in Winter) and the stationery bike. I'm also starting to use Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus.
Get healthier, eat reasonable portions without feeling deprived (or was that depraved? ;) ) Lose weight slowly (around 1 pound per week) in the process.
I restarted Sparkpeople January 1, 2010 and have lost about 5 pounds since then (as of March 2010)!
Portion control and cutting down on fat and sweets. Walking and/or using the recumbent stationary bike for at least 10-30 minutes every day.
