I have BED (Binge Eating Disorder) and became ill with heart and circulatory problems in October/November 2003. Until then I was a full-time carer for my only child Katie, who died aged 14, in 2004 from a congenital heart condition. My recovery was very slow and frustrating and I have athritis in my left hip and both knees partly due to a serious road accident in 1984, but look on myself as "enabled" not disabled. My goal was to get a job working with computers, so I studied for and passed my CompTIA A+ in 2006 and am now working towards my MCSA. I was a Volunteer at our local Hospice for a year and now work as an ICT Technician in a local School... which I love. I still help at the hospice in the school holidays. I had a gastric bypass in January and had lost 86lbs to reach my pre-surgery target weight (BMI 50 or less). Sadly, due to medication changes, I put 21lbs back on, but I lost it again in the run up to my surgery. I also had a very large hiatus hernia which had to be repaired first, which caused my heart problems. My weight plateaued after a fall last September which injured my good leg causing my arthritis to flare up and prevented me from exercising on my bike. But that has settled and I'm slowly building up a new exercise regime and hope eventually to walk with just one stick. As one of my goals here at SP, I redecorated my hall, bathroom and lounge - a real physical challenge to me at the time, which took me 14 weeks in total, but helped to restore some of my confidence in my own abilities. I've had a short course of councelling recently to help with the reasons for my bingeing and depression. It hasn't solved the problems, but I believe it has given me the tools to be able to deal with them in a more positive light. I'm on the Worship Team at church, plus I'm learning to play the djembe (african hand drum). I also help with the children's ministry on Sunday and during the week. A friend of mine once described me as "driven"... he was probably right, but I've now learnt to let go and let God in the last year after renewing my faith in Jesus and my confirmation in December 2008. Life is very busy, but I'm happy and enjoying it. ~*Cely*~ Updated 10/15/09

My Goals:
My long-term goal is to walk with only one stick and pass my MCSA.
My Program:
I've lost 160lbs since December 2006 and came to SP in June 2007 for help with my motivation and to begin an exercise program to help my weight loss. I'm building a new cardio/strength routine after surgery and plan to carry it on long term.
Personal Information:
I live in the UK. I was involved in Martial Arts in the past and a member of a Dark Ages re-enactment society, riding my motorcycle to events. But after a serious road accident was unable to continue. My daughter died in 2004 and my sister the previous year, following a road accident. My father also died from a heart attack. So I have plenty of experience with loss of a loved one. I now work in a school as an ICT Technician.
Other Information:
I gained my BSc in 2000.
