Random Thoughts From A Foodie

I was laying in bed on Christmas morning, still in the dark, and thinking about prepping for dinner. My mind wandered (as it will before my four shots of espresso) to our penchant for gorging ourselves on holidays.

I wondered...could it come from the Roman tradition of feasting until you feel like your gut will burst, and then visiting the vomitorium so you can do it all over again? Or does it stem from lean times? Or what about seasonal eating, when the family animals were ...

I wondered...could it come from the Roman tradition of feasting until you feel like your gut will burst, and then visiting the vomitorium so you can do it all over again? Or does it stem from lean times? Or what about seasonal eating, when the family animals were killed? Preservation methods may not have been too certain - perhaps families ate more than usual at those times. All in all, societally, I think we're a lot more complicated than we generally believe.

Oh, wait, was I supposed to put something about MYSELF in here? Hmmm...I'll have to think about that...(g)

My Goals:
Getting through my divorce with no additional weight packed on. That's the short-term goal.

The long-term goal is relatively simple - it's to actually lose the weight, and make my health better, so I don't succumb to the familial diseases of diabetes and heart disease. Yuck.

My Program:
It's a minimal program; right now, until my first divorce mediation hearing, I'm just trying to be sensible about the amount of calories going into my mouth. But after tracking things for less than a week, I can say that I really need some vitamins, because I'm coming in very low on everything I'm tracking. Even my fiber - I'm trying to get that up around 30-35 grams per day.

Hippocrates said "Let food be your medicine, and let medicine be your food." So let's use nature's broom!

Personal Information:
Right now I'm in Central Florida, but I'm looking to move somewhere there is lots of snow. And I mean lots. I don't do the heat thing very well. Of course, part of that could be just because I'm fat...

Other Information:
I write paranormal fiction. Right now I'm working on a series with a gourmet werejackal who has a snarky sense of humor and a penchant for designer clothes and dental floss. If anyone watches NCIS, he's a lot like DiNozzo, at least, the quirky sense of humor part.
