My name is Laura and I live in West Michigan. I have been on SparkPeople since January 19, 2008, but became inactive and absorbed in Facebook in 2009. SparkPeople is so motivational and supportive. My name is Laura and I live in West Michigan. I have been on SparkPeople since January 19, 2008, but became inactive and absorbed in Facebook in 2009. SparkPeople is so motivational and supportive. I lost 26 lbs from Jan - May 2008 and have gained back all of it and more since then. Today is January 3, 2012 and I am re-motivated and am hoping to get back on track using the tools that this awesome site provides and lose the weight I've gained back and more!

Weight loss challenge - I have hypothyroidism. Although I am on medication to regulate my thyroid levels, it is very difficult for me to lose weight. My metabolism is very low. Even when I work out, it is difficult for me to get my heart rate up high. My resting heartbeat can be as low as 40. I've had nurses freak out, thinking that it has to be a fluke.

My main weight issue is food and beverage consumption. I know that my portions are too big for the low amount of calories that I naturally burn, and I drink empty calories.

Weight loss success in the past has come from tracking both diet and exercise and limiting carbs. When I cut back on carbs, my weight usually drops, but comes right back up when I eat a bagel. Cutting carbs is very difficult for me, as they are my favorite foods.

I love working out and have been pretty good at meeting my fitness goals. Last year I started a part-time job, in addition to my real estate position. The market is just so horrible here, I needed to take on another job to help pay my business expenses. I enjoy outdoor exercise - in the summer I bike, EcoTrek (intense cardio/strength training in parks), and roller blading. In the winter, I ski (downhill and x-country), snowshoe and a lot of indoor group classes.

I am hopeful that I can get back on track with SP and achieve the success I did in the past.

My Goals:

My goal is to track my food intake at least 5 days out of 7. I want to stay between 1200-1500 calorie each day.

The instructor of our Group Power class used to teach Body Pump and said she liked Pump better because of the music. I haven't tried Ride yet.
I went skiing with my kids today. It was fun but we could sure use some more snow.

Hi there! I read your blog on kickboxing. The gym I go to has the BTS classes also. Group Kick is my absolute favorite! It is an awesome workout and fun! I also go to Group Power and Group Step. HAve you tried those?
