The Journey

I am a humanitarian aid worker, and travel extensively, so I can't follow a specific food plan. I exercise a lot, but it doesn't seem to help, and recently, I ruptured a disc and had to have surgery, so right now, I cannot do heavy exercising, but I am building up to it. Right now, I would be happy just not gaining weight while I recover, but I need to lose, as I carry all of my weight in my abdomen, which pulls on my low back. Right now, I would be happy just not gaining weight while I recover, but I need to lose, as I carry all of my weight in my abdomen, which pulls on my low back. Also, I am very muscular, so my goal weight is 14 lbs more than recommended, but that is where I am really healthy. I always think that it should be easy as I only need to lose 23 lbs, but somehow, I jsut can't do it!

Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time. A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.

1. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.

2. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.

The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Spark friends are here for support, motivation and encouragement. Good luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Again, welcome to the SP family!

Hi Lars and welcome to sparkpeople,

You have come to the perfect place to find the inspiration and motivation to meet your goals. You will find friends who understand your issues and can relate, and that's just one of the wonderful possibilities that have opened up to you by coming here to spark!
To get yourself familiar with the sparkpeople site, go to your start page and on the top right corner you will see a tab "how to use this site" click on that and once you're done going through those steps, which will help you navigate the site, you can add teams (that hold similar interests), add friends and post on your team threads or here on the message boards.
