Working out with a teenager

Boy Scout troop is working on Personal Fitness merit badge; son wants to start building muscle; mom needs to lose weight....seems like the perfect combination to start again.....goal is 20 pounds.....for me to lose and for him to gain...working slowly so as not to hurt ourselves, but going to get moving quickly....since weights and treadmill are in the unheated garage, I need to locate a few layers that can be worn to start and then shed as the heat gets going....good times.....

My Goals:
drop about 30 pounds, give or take so that my newly discovered hiatal hernia will be less of a problem, my pre-diabetes label will disappear, and my thyroid won't have as much effect on me.

My Program:
weights, cardio, fun things like dancing and speed walking to the retro music on my iPod, introducing myself to the joys of a stability ball, testing the waters of yoga with the Wii Fit....definitely making sure that my food portions are correct and forgoing things like chips, dessert, sodas, etc. unless I've been *really* good with my eating that day.

Personal Information:
hmm, born in Baltimore, MD, lived in VA, then MD, then Panama, then NY, finally back to VA where I hope I'll stay for a while. Have had previous food-issues, and consider myself a recovering anorexic (yes, even though I'm overweight, I can go into starvation mode when under extreme stress).

This time of year is crazy for people.....just take it one day at a time. Drink lots of water when you're stressed and take 10 minutes just to stretch and breathe :) emoticon

Thanks for the check-in! So far doing better then a few weeks ago...but could do better on the exercises so I joined that 10-minute streak challenge to push myself for consistency.
