Difficult things take a long time, impossible things a little longer

UPDATE: July 1, 2015
I was gone for nearly two years from Spark because my personal life was pretty hectic but I never forgot about my goals and what I wanted. I think the important thing is to keep trying and never give up.

I was gone for nearly two years from Spark because my personal life was pretty hectic but I never forgot about my goals and what I wanted. I think the important thing is to keep trying and never give up.

What's different this time around? I'm taking it much slower and approaching this whole process with a kinder mentality to myself. I experienced some pretty serious burnout physically and mentally last time by trying to push myself to what I was told I should strive to do or be able to do. It's so easy to get caught up in the hype but the problem is when you can't keep up, it feels terrible.

I'm also listening to my body. When something hurts, I'm going to let it heal even if it means not reaching my goals as quickly as I had hoped. It can be extremely frustrating starting over and over and over but I honestly think that's just life. Sometimes you win and sometimes you f*** up.

UPDATE: October 2, 2012
When I first started this journey two months ago, I was in a desperate place emotionally and mentally. I still have the same goals but now I've added a new goal: Joy. I want to embrace and experience this life. Getting physically fit is making is making that dream closer to a reality.

I'm honestly proud of the progress I've made simply because I've stuck with it since June and I honestly never stick to anything. Usually I get bored and move along.

I've met so many amazing people on here and reading their posts encourages me every day. Their small and large accomplishments keep me going and their failures/defeats give me the ability to be more kind to myself because I realize we all face obstacles.

Welcome and please feel free to add me as a friend. Especially if you live in my home state of New Mexico.
------------------------------------
Hi. I'm Elaine and turning 40, I realized there were so many things in life I hadn't done or resisted doing because of my weight. I don't want to spend the rest of my life missing out because I wasn't willing to put in the hard work to lose weight.

I've also realized a big reason I've failed every time I tried was that I didn't put myself and my weight loss first. It was always my personal relationships that took the top spot. Getting out of a terrible relationship where I had to do everything for this person made me realize what a bad, destructive habit putting yourself last can be and it can have terrible consequences.

This time I'm determined and will not apologize or feel guilty for saying no because it interferes with my goal to lose weight.

My Goals:
To finally embrace a healthy, realistic lifestyle that sticks. Learn to forgive myself and stop doing things for other people at the expense of my own well being.

My Program:
Under construction...

My goal is to be active three to four times a week.

Right now this includes various cardio including walking, swimming, zumba and boot camp and strength training. I'm not sure how much or how often. I'm trying to find a good balance.

Personal Information:
I'm a big nerd and I don't mind it a bit. I live in beautiful New Mexico and currently make my living as a writer.

I have one son who is headed to college. Emotionally that was something I had a hard time accepting. Some counseling and great friends helped me overcome the depression and anxiety I felt over his impending departure. This of course contributed to my weight struggle. Stress and anxiety is a huge trigger for me.

Other Information:
I love to read, I love being outside, I love crowds, I love to dance to really loud music, I love to laugh, I love hot and humid weather and I love the ocean.

I love my state and its people and my very large and awesome extended family.

I also have a large network of awesome friends all over the world. They make my life amazing.

HI Laney, I'm late getting back to you. I'm hanging in there. Thanks for asking. Hope you are doing well. My pounds haven't been flying off, however, my blood sugar is doing quite a bit better since I've been watching my portions. How have you been?
