Here we go...

Hello. I'm in Austin, Texas. I have a partner and my baby son.

I lost a bunch of weight, and I've gained most of it back. Got distracted when I got the partner, then wasn't trying to diet because I was trying to get pregnant. Then I was pregnant. Have overeaten a bit while nursing, so I need to back off that now. That's why I'm back here on sparkpeople.

As a feminist and a social scientist, I find the whole weight loss thing really weird, especially the deliberate getting rid of a stigma. Not sure I buy into all the health hazards of obesity, thanks to reading books by Paul Campos and Gina Kolata. But I do feel a hell of a lot better when I weigh less.

My son will be crawling and walking any day now and I'll need to chase after him. So I guess I'd better get in shape.

Looking for like-minded people to talk to.

My Goals:
I'm trying to not be too scale focused, but man I'd really like to be below 200.

I guess I have to figure out how to measure my other goals. Sure, I want to feel less achey and more flexible, but how do I measure/track that? Huh.

My Program:
Mostly I'm just trying to eat nutrient dense food right now, minimize processed food, pesticides, and antibiotic-laden meat. Trying to figure out how to put exercise in my schedule.

Other Information:
And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. - Ana´s Nin

Loved your comment on the Applebees blog - In all seriousness, we need to support local businesses and these little restaurants are 1000 times better than these chains, which only care about how efficiently they can make food so that they can make more money! The owner of our local Thai restuarant actually comes out and talks to us about food with us when we eat there, and if I want advice on cooking, he's happy to share. THIS is the experience that people miss out on, REAL passion for food!
