The Last Year
I was doing so well and got to early October eating better and exercising 3 or 4 times a week when I came down with a cold and then another cold that turned into bronchitis and when I finally felt better it was mid November and I hadn't exercised for a month and I hadn't been eating well. Then it was Thanksgiving and preparing for the holidays and somehow I am back to 195. Well not somehow, I know exactly how. I just let myself eat whatever I wanted for the last two ...

Then it was Thanksgiving and preparing for the holidays and somehow I am back to 195. Well not somehow, I know exactly how. I just let myself eat whatever I wanted for the last two months. So back to the beginning. New goal: 187 by February 21st, swimming 2 miles a week. Hope everyone is have a great holiday!
My last goal was to get from 198.2 to 185 (in time for a friends' weddings). I didn't quite make it (I was 189.6 before going) but that was largely to a health scare that I had a few weeks prior -- thanks a lot mammogram :(. I had to get a biopsy and wasn't allowed to do any vigorous exercise for a week afterwards. Turned out not to be cancer (thankfully!) but the stress of not knowing pushed me over the edge to comfort eating again. I did manage to get back on track and have been making great progress with my fitness regimen (I can now swim 1/4 mile and I can dive headfirst into the pool - two things I've never been able to do before!).
So I'm setting a new goal (with a new starting point) as a way to clear away the struggles of the past few weeks and recommit to my healthier goals. My new goal is to get down to 180 by Thanksgiving in 3 months. This is an 11 pound weight loss and should be doable. I'm going to try my best to keep up with cardio (running and swimming) and strenght training. Along with healthier eating (I'm looking at you yummy cinamon bun).

I don't know where to begin. The last year has been really tough. I almost considered making a new username and literally starting all over but I have to own my past in order to create a better future. I started at Spark a little over 4 years ago. My yearly stats are:
My current weight is 196.6. When I wrote the previous entry it was just before we lost Orson (my furry friend in the picture). It was a rather traumatic situation. This was followed by house hunting in late summer 2011, preparing to sell our house in fall 2011, finding out that my oldest son (7) has a processing speed deficit and needs special education services (a process that took a good 6 months), buying a new house in January 2012, selling our old house in March 2012, moving in April 2012, and settling in to our new home (an upgrade for sure :). And that doesn't even touch on my health issues over the last year.
I was getting more and more anxious (see above) at the end of 2011 so I started taking some anti-anxiety meds. At the same time I got a false positive for a life-changing diagnosis (which totally freaked me out) and this sent me into a deep depression. I finally got on medication for depression along with the anxiety with the help of a psychiatrist and slowly started feeling better around May. Unfortunately in the meantime I had turned to food for comfort and started to binge. I gained over 20 pounds in a year.
So hear I am. Hopeful.

I've been here three years now with varied success. I've managed to lose 35 pounds and keep it off for the most part. I've found out that I enjoy running and have tried to make it a more regular part of my life. I still struggle though and I'm not ashamed to admit that I have a hard time with my sugar addiction. But as many people have said before me, each year that I'm not losing weight is a year that I also haven't gained any weight. Which for me is huge.
My focus right now is on healtier eating, kicking the diet soda to the curb, and eating much less packaged foods. I'm also making more efforts to try new foods and broaden my food repertoire.
