I joined in January at the suggestion of a friend and it really has changed my attitude and approach towards health, in terms of nutrition and exercise. I mean, I still dislike exercising, but I do a bit every day, just not lots--but it has been enough that I have taken off over 70 pounds. And, once in a while, I eat dessert (small portion), pizza, cheese, etc. But in healthy portion amounts and as a rare treat, rather than a daily occurrence.
For me, success has really come from logging in a few times a day and tracking my food. Makes it much easier to stay within my calorie range and to be CONSCIOUS of what I am choosing to put in my mouth. I've also gotten a lot more patient--I see that this is for life. I don't reach goal weight and then get to drop by Dairy Queen every day (not if I want to stay at a healthy weight).
I've also learned that eating something that isn't part of my healthy eating plan is not a reason to say "Screw it, I'll eat whatever I want today and then start again tomorrow (or Monday)." I managed to put on my final 70 pounds putting off my diet until Monday for the better part of 3 years! Now I try really hard not to think of this as a diet, but a series of choices I get to make about the kind of life I want to enjoy. So--do I have dessert at Benitz' Bistro, for example? Heck, yes! But I only eat there about 6 times a year. So that's okay. ..
