Chronicling My Journey
I've been a long-time member of SparkPeople, but have yet to take advantage of anything the website, or the community within it, has to offer. I think it is safe to say that we all, at one point or another, thought that this whole weight loss journey was going to be easy, am I right? I mean, all we have to do is set up an account on some webpage, and the pounds will just magically fall off as we read about other's successes, right? I admit I'm guilty of that. But, the sad thing is, ...
But, the sad thing is, magic of that sort really doesn't exist, does it! On September 9, 2011 I underwent weight loss surgery and received a lapband. I am incredibly excited to be starting this next phase of my life, one where my life doesn't revolve around worrying when my next meal is, and wondering if the portions will be big enough. The lapband already has given me the freedom to actually live, and enjoy, life. My lapband has also given me the energy to begin accomplishing my dreams. You see, one day I want to attempt a summit of Mt. Everest. Now, I'm obviously starting my journey with much smaller summits, and then will work my way up to the highest mountain in the world. Along with mountaineering, my other passion is horses. I currently own (or am owned by) two horses, Amari, an 11yo Quarter Horse, and Cadence, a four year old Percheron/TB cross. As I have been losing weight, I am finding I have a lot more balance and security when on their backs. I'm sure they are also appreciative of having less and less weight to carry around too. I am beginning to feel more confident in doing faster paced and more difficult things on the trail, and I am having tons of fun! I'm looking forward to next summer when I can finally get out there and do some competitive trail riding with my girls. =)
