Little Is the New Big!

My name is Rachel. I'm a 22-year-old college grad with a degree in linguistics. I struggled with eating disorders for most of my preteen and teenage years. I'm ready to take on a more mature diet.

In the fall 2006, I went through a tough break up and I realized I needed to take control of things and learn to enjoy myself again. I had really let go since I came to school, which at first was a good thing, as I was eating again after years of disordered eating.

I joined Spark on November 4, 2006. I started working out and dieting all of a sudden--I lost 3 pounds in my first 2 days. Now I'm trying to find a healthy lifestyle that is maintainable and manageable, as well as healthy and careful.

I'm in college, and I'm usually busy with work, but I'm also trying to take the time to work some things out with myself...looking closely at my perfectionist attitude and trying to develop a more healthy way of living. I take time each day to figure out myself and how I'm treating my body and living my life. If anyone else is going through a similar process, I'd love to chat! Being self-aware is scary, but it can be a very positive thing.

5'1
HW: 135
SW with Sparkpeople: 125 lbs
GW: 100 lbs

I had originally planned to reach my goal for my 20th birthday, 01.28.06. I'd just like to keep losing at whatever rate I can (just not gaining) and reach 100.

My body composition results, taken on April 4, 2007 (my SP 5 month anniversary):
Body Type: Standard
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Height: 5 ft 1 in
Weight: 109.6 lb
BMI: 20.7
Fat %: 17.5%
BMR: 1325 kcal
Impedance: 568 ohms
Fat Mass: 19.2 lb
Fat-Free Mass: 90.41 lb
Total Body Water: 66.2 lb (a little bit of water is being retained...the recommended range is 45-60%)

EDIT:
I had my composition re-tested on the same machine on September 5, 2007, just about my 10 month Spark anniversary. Here are the results:

Body type: Standard
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Height: 5 ft 1 in
Weight: 106.8
BMI: 20.2
Fat %: 11.0%
BMR: 1313 kcal
Impedance: 484 ohms
Fat mass: 11.81 lb
Fat-Free mass: 95.0 lb
Total Body Water: 69.61 lb

EDIT:
I had my composition retested on the same scale on 11.07.07, just after my one year anniversary on Spark. Here are the results:
Body Type: Standard
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Height: 5 ft 1 in
Weight: 96.6 lb
BMI: 18.3
Fat %: 3.2%
BMR: 1269 kcal
Impedance: 48 Ohm
Fat mass: 3 lb
Fat Free mass: 93.61 lb
Total Body Water: 68.6 lb

EDIT:
I had my composition re-analyzed on the same scale, at the same gym, in the same outfit, at the same location, following the same 48-hour guidelines as the previous weigh-ins on 02.06.08, just about my 15 month SP anniversary. Here are the results:

Body Type: Standard
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Height: 5 ft 1 in
Weight: 92.2 lb
BMI: 17.4
Fat %: 6.1
BMR: 1245
Impedance: 583 oms
Fat Mass: 5.6 lb
Fat-Free Mass: 86.6 lb
Total Body Water: 63.4 lb

I'm really quite short, and I'd like to allover "little."

Minigoals:
115 by Thanksgiving 06 (AW: 115)
110 by the New Year 07 (AW: 110.5)
105 by Valentine's Day 07 (AW: 109)

I'd like to reward myself by getting my belly button pierced. Don't tell my parents. :)

Please, if you're here, friend me! I'd love to get to know everyone I can! We can do this!

NOVEMBER 4, 2007:
Happy One-Year-of-Sparking Anniversary to me :) 365 days! I am going to take it easy from sparking for a while to work on some healthy lifestyle issues. Good luck to all!

I want to live, not just survive.

NOVEMBER 29, 2008:
Well, I'm still here. 2 years and some odd days--I was awarded 25 pts today.
I weighed 104 at my doctor's office last Tuesday. I have gained some of the weight back and feel like I am in a much healthier place in my recovery from anorexia. I have been toying with bulimia, though, and would like to stop purging. A good way to do this is to stop binging, so I'm going to be using SP to the fullest. I have been tracking a lot, but I am going to be activeinly working to get healthier. I am going to go to the gym again, blog here on SP, and get my life together.

My Goals:
My number one priority is recovering from an eating disorder and restoring my health. I would like to become healthy enough to exercise again.

I need to learn to respect my body and be careful about what goes in. I want to feel stronger and more empowered and I want to begin from the outside and work inward.

Alyssa Milano is the same height as I am (5-1.5) and she has weighed between 90-105 lbs. I think she looks fabulous and I've been told I resemble her. I'd love to be as sexy as she is.

Other celebrity inspiration:
Renee Zellweger
Christina Ricci
Eva Mendes
Rosario Dawson
Reese Witherspoon
Nicole Richie
Evangeline Lily
Rose McGowan
Rachel Bilson
Mila Kunis
Hilary Duff
Natalie Portman
Rachel McAdams
Parker Posey
Elisha Cuthbert
Gwen Stefani

I would like to be able to wear shorts to the gym and wear shorts in the summer.

My Program:
First, I reduced my calories to 1200-1550 a day. I hit a plateau, which kept me at 110 for many months, even with restricted calories and exercise. Eventually, I cut out a lot more of the JUNK in my diet and the scale started moving again.

Total vegetarian, sometimes vegan diet. 2-3 days at the gym per week (30-60 min a day). Working on an elliptical, but trying to vary the intervals to keep my body interested (and losing)!

Keeping my calories between 1200-1550 again, but with some days higher and some days lower. It is all about a happy balance and a balance of food groups.

Personal Information:
I am a Linguistics major. I love thinking about language. I'm interested in American Sign Language, Deaf Culture, India, Hindi, and Indian culture.

I really admire dancer and actress Ann Miller. She is a truly beautiful and dynamic woman.

I love old-timey pin-up art and photography. I think that the figures of vintage models were sexier AND healthier than a lot of the models today.

Other Information:
Favourite TV shows:
Arrested Development, Gidget, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Da Ali G Show, Stella, The Office (BBC), The Brady Bunch, Cheaters, The Office (American), Space Ghost Coast to Coast, The Nanny, Project Runway, America's Next Top Model, What Not To Wear, A Baby Story, Frasier, NewsRadio, Extras, The Sarah Silverman Program, MST3K, The Home Shopping Network, QVC (but not as much as HSN).

I love comedy and comedy shows. I love The Dresden Dolls. I love tv. I love sparkfriends. My favourite movie is "Marty."

Hey, I've really fallen off the wagon with my weight loss, but getting back on track now. Not sure if you remember me, but I'm glad to see you're doing better with your anorexia and bulmia. How have you been feeling recently?

heyy i added you because i read your "about me" and found it inspiring that you're helping yourself. i sill also struggle with disordered eating thoughts and am finding it very hard to diet because the eating disordered part of my brain just wants me to eat less and less, or nothing at all instead of healthy, so i can relate to your struggle. if you ever need someone to talk to i'm here! x
