My Journey to Health

I have been overweight most of my life. I have lost weight in the past (70 lbs once even!), but have never made lasting changes to my lifestyle. I am done living this way. I want so much more from my life- things that I cannot have due to weight, health problems, and lack of energy. Last year I set out to lose 100 pounds. It never happened. In fact I started out this year with an extra 40 lbs. My real struggle is my thinking. I suffer from depression/bi-polar and spent 4 out of 12 months ...

I want so much more from my life- things that I cannot have due to weight, health problems, and lack of energy. Last year I set out to lose 100 pounds. It never happened. In fact I started out this year with an extra 40 lbs. My real struggle is my thinking. I suffer from depression/bi-polar and spent 4 out of 12 months in the hospital last year. I need to work on myself from the inside out. For me this is a mental battle as well as a physical one.

(Starting weight - 326)

*275- lowest weight I've maintained in 4 years.- Done 2/5/11 (rewarded with new hair straightener)
* 264- 1st 25 lbs lost
*260- 10% weight lost (29 lbs)
*239- 1st 50 lbs lost
*228- Obese! BMI 38
*217- 25% lost (72 lbs)
*199- Out of the 200's!!!
*185- 50 more lbs to go
*175- 40 more lbs to go
*174- Overweight! BMI 29
*165- 30 more lbs to go
*155- 20 more lbs to go
*145- 10 more lbs to go
*144- "Normal"! BMI 24
*135- GOAL!!!! BMI 22.5

I would also like to recognize the following:
Each month I am able to lose 10 lbs+
*Jan 2011- Total loss- 13 lbs (rewarded with a pedicure)
Each month I have 25+ stars on my calendar for 100% days

There is also 3 major goals I would like to achieve-

1) I want to have enough energy to keep up to my kids!
Meaning I want to be able to do the following:
- Hula-hoop for 2 mins at a time.
- Jump rope for 5 mins at a time.
- Do a somersault.
- Do a cartwheel.
- Cross the monkey bars at the playground.
- Do a headstand and a handstand with the support of a wall
- Hold a bridge for one min.

2) I want to shop for clothes at a "regular' store.
Meaning:
- Wear a size 12 comfortably.
- Being able to look for clothes I like before looking to see what's in my size.

3) I want to have enough strength and stamina to play sports, run, and play.
Meaning:
- I want to get up on water ski's again.
- I want to try downhill skiing and snowboarding again.
- I want to be able to ice skate again.
- I want to enjoy playing team sports again.
- I want to walk/ run 5k's on the treadmill.

My Goals:
My goal is to become HEALTHY. I want to have more energy for playing with my kids and for doing the things I have always wanted to do. I want to become 'an expert' on living a healthy lifestyle.
I wish to help and inspire anyone who wants to make changes in their life and particularly their health.



My Program:
I am using Spark-people's nutrition calculator to stay within my recommended daily intakes.
I am doing cardio three times a week and strength training twice a week. I also am working on myself from the inside as well - focusing on dealing with my emotional issues that have contributed to where I am today. I am going to take it slow so as to make lasting and meaningful change.
I will add more exercise as I am able. I am concentrating on making small changes over time that will add up to big results.

Personal Information:
I started having health problems in my early teens. Along with them came pain, stress, and then eating to try to 'make myself feel better'. I have tried many times, and many different ways, of losing weight in the past. The past two years I have told myself that I was going to reach my goals. Unfortunately I now weigh more than I did two years ago. I have made many excuses for myself in the past and have decided enough is enough. No more looking back! I want to do this for me!
I am a mother of two wonderful and energetic girls, a wife to a incredibly supportive husband, and am still working on finding 'me' while dealing with negative self talk and bi-polar
disorder.

Other Information:
I enjoy crafts, doing nails, being silly with my girls and music. I want to be the best Mom and role model I can possibly be for my girls. I want to enjoy life to the full and not live in the past.

Hello! Thank you for adding me as a friend! While my weight loss seems to be turtle-slow so far this time around, I know that I'm still making positive changes and the weight will eventually come off again. I want to help encourage and support others on here, and will do my best to check in with you on a somewhat regular basis!
