Horse Mom Looking to Lose

I spend a lot of time working with my 4 horses and taking care of our property. I'm very active, but I have a few habits that seem to thwart my ability to keep the body that I took for grantit most of my life. I'm frustrated with my lack of committment to losing a few pounds. I start out great... for a few days, then it's right back to not paying attention again. I've taken the time to set up "MY ROOM" in the spare bedroom upstairs to make staying on track more convenient for myself. ...

I want a healthy back again... I wanna play soccer again... I want to feel good about myself again and I need your help since I haven't been able to do it on my own - in fact I've made it worse! LOL!!

My Goals:
My first goal is to succeed at the Alcohol Challenge: no drinks Mon-Thur, 3 ea Fri-Sun. I work from home, have 6 acres to take care of and 8 animals, a husband and no kids; so - when I get done with house work and head outside, I grab a beer, then another, then another... I've gained 10 pounds since moving here... on top of the 10 I already needed to lose

My second, concurrent goal, is to weigh 130 pounds by November 1, 2007.

My Program:
I like my couch... a lot... as a work space. My program has started with me moving my laptop from my couch to the desk in "MY ROOM".

I am relearning how to take care of "Me" both emotionally and mentally by listening to my self help tapes and reading my motivational books... I LOVE these things!

All 40 of those workout videos/dvd's that I've been expecting to work for me over the years without being watched are now in "MY ROOM" with plenty of room to execute them:) My Ab Lounge, free weights, stair machine, little red dot and bean are all in there in their own special places with plenty of room to use them.

I've made the room healthy & exercise friendly and I love it.

I'm also slowly replacing the not so healthy foods in my house. Instead of throwing away the high fat foods, I'm just using less of them (putting mayo on only one side of the sandwchich instead of lathering it on two!) and instead of eating huge bowls of Rocky Road ice cream EV

Personal Information:
Hi! My name is Karen Pittman and I live in Sequim, Washington (www.sequim.com). I'm 38 years old and I'm married to a wonderful man. We don't have any kids... yet, but we do have four dogs and four horses.

I spend a lot of time outside working on our ranch and I've taken to counting that as exercise because it IS back breaking work... except I'm drinking beer the whole time I'm doing it. Five or six beers a night is just not uncommon around my house and we're simply drinking out of boredom.

Fortunately, Shawn and I I have agreed to accept the alcohol challenge together so we can both be healthier. We'd like to have a family of our own but we will not bring a child into this world until we have learned how to live a more healty lifestyle instead of this very selfish one we are currently indulging in.

Other Information:
It's hard to call myself on my own BS but my weight gain is almost entirely to be blamed upon the alcohol. If anyone out there can relate, whether you are currently fighting this or you have licked the problem, I'd love to hear your story!

Hi Karen. I completely understand your dilemma. I live in NYC, and drinking several nights a week has become part of my social life. Work hard, play hard. That's my MO. That's been gradually changing, but I do still find myself in the situation where after work if I have nothing else to do, or simply just don't want to go home, I'll grab a friend and go get a drink. Or two. Or three. So I'm with you!

I can also relate to the drinking putting on weight. My husband and I also used to drink a lot in the evenings out of boredom. Just like when I quit smoking, we just flat out decided we weren't going to drink during the week, and then we just made ourselves do something else. We even started going to bed earlier so we wouldn't be tempted! We also ate dinner earlier because we found if we had a full stomach we were less likely to drink. Now that it's been a while of this, it's become a habit and we don't drink during the week anymore. You can do anything you put your mind to!

Hi there! I am horse people too and can identify with how tasty a cold beer is after all the horses are fed :0) Congrats on your decision to have a healthy lifestyle and good luck!
