Changing My Life

Hi! I am Kristin, a 32 year old stay-at-home mom. I have always struggled with my weight, bouncing up and down the scale. I recently hit my highest weight ever (even higher than when I was pregnant!) and got a reality check from my doctor. I am working hard to lower my blood pressure and my blood sugar, trying to fight off heart disease and diabetes. As a wonderful side affect of tackling these two issues, I am dropping weight and having much more energy than ever before. This site is ...

My Goals:
My main goal is to lower my blood pressure enough to go off of my medication. I'm too young to be on medicine for the rest of my life! I would also like to lose about 20 more pounds. Lastly, I want to continue to improve my fitness level, by increasing the amount of cardio I do each week. I want to make fitness a regular part of my life, as well as my family's lives.

Running has become a huge part of my life and I would like to gradually work toward a 1/2 Marathon! The Disney Princess race in particular!
10/2010 - Kelso 5K (35:40)
04/2011 - Go! STL 5K (35:20)
04/2001 - Gebken 5K (35:01)
06/2011 - Komen STL 5K
08/2011 - Phoenix Crisis Center 5K
10/2011- Go! STL Halloween 5K
01/2012- Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon

Another random goal: I want to be able to do 10 full push-ups in a row!

My Program:
1. Control meal portions and limit the amount of sweets and sodium I eat, staying within the guidelines on the Spark.
2. Work out at least 3 times per week - including 9 miles of running, 2 weight sessions, and at least 1 yoga session.

Hi Kristin....thanks for the helpful comment on my blog. I should try doing something like that with the chicken. :-) I just wish I was a chicken lover. I like chicken, but only in small doses. I wish I liked it more. I could, however, eat a nice juicy steak anytime one was put in front of me. LOL!

Last year, I ordered the Cooking Light magazine from my friend's daughter who was selling them for Girl Scouts. Many of those recipes look so good, but I just haven't made most of them because I never have half the ingredients. Does the Cooking Light Cookbook have simple recipes that don't require you to go out and buy a million ingredients? I think that's a big reason why I don't make many recipes. Our grocery budget is way too small. But we don't really have any other option, since we have so many bills to pay. So we end up getting the necessary basics and then there's nothing left to get anything cool.

I really like the chicken idea and freezing portions in ziplock bags. I think I'm going to try that. Maybe that will get me to like chicken more. :-)

I'll also check out that website you gave me too. :-)

You look great and your hard work definitely shows. Congrats! :-)

Thanks again! :)
Tina

Hi there--Just checking in on my spark friends and wondering how you are doing? How's the running going? I am hoping this finds you continuing to heal and able to get out there and enjoy your runs--I am finding it doesn't matter how far or how fast you go it's just getting out there again that is the best part! Have a great weekend emoticon

How are you feeling? The race was really AWESOME!!!! It was so much fun...the best part was running through the Magic Kingdom. Really a DREAM!!! It's a fun race...not a race to get a good time...and I like it that way. You will do it!!!!!!

HI Kristin ~ I would wait until the youngest is about 5ish. We started going once a year since dd2 was a baby and not fun for me. With her being 4 it was more fun for everyone.

BTW ~ How are you doing? The hamstring and all.
