4/26/09:

Time for a major overhaul! I'm a 21 year old college student who needs to get healthy! I've hovered around 140-145 throughout college and since my eating habits have always been terrible I figured I could just keep going the way I have been and not see any real weight gain. I've never been comfortable at my weight, but didn't see any desperate need to give up my habits since the scale didn't reflect all of the crap I eat. Time for a major overhaul! I'm a 21 year old college student who needs to get healthy! I've hovered around 140-145 throughout college and since my eating habits have always been terrible I figured I could just keep going the way I have been and not see any real weight gain. I've never been comfortable at my weight, but didn't see any desperate need to give up my habits since the scale didn't reflect all of the crap I eat. So imagine my surprise when I stepped on the scale this week and I saw 152! A 7-12 pound weight gain since I last weighed myself in the fall. Soooo...something has GOT to change. I'm tired of feeling bloated, gross, and self-concious and plan to use this summer to get hot!

It's hard to diet because my friends love to go out and drinking is not good for a diet. I'm going to have to learn to balance fun and fitness. Also, there is always someone wanting to "do lunch" or go out to dinner, which is expensive and loaded with calories! Moderation is my new motto. I'm overhauling my lifestyle and placing more importance on my physical health. Wish me luck!

My Goals:
I want to be 120 pounds eventually...by eating well & working out! I also want to run a half marathon...eventually...running is so hard for me to stick with but I'll hopefully get there at some point!

My Program:
I'm going to eat nutritious foods & stay within my daily calorie goals. I'm going to do cardio 5-6 days a week & strength train 2-3.

Personal Information:
I live in Oklahoma for school but I'm originally from Texas! I'm getting my business degree and will probably end up in marketing. Go Pokes!

Other Information:
I'm a pretty active person already, it's the eating that kills my progress. I love food and want to break my addiction! For exercise I like to bike, go on long walks, or use the machines at the gym. Besides that I like music, hanging out with friends, working, reading, watching movies, and sleeping!

Stillwater is too cold! I can't wait for it to warm up! I walk to school, so it's horrible right now!

I lost 1/2 a pound last week, it's a loss, but I was hoping for more! Maybe this week will be better. emoticon

My advice...hmmm...assess your weakest times and what triggers it. Seems like you're an emotional eater. You eat when you're bored, happy, celebrating, upset, angry, etc.

The way I went about correcting that is eliminating bad foods from kitchen entirely. That way, if I'm going to binge when I'm emotional, the worse thing that could happen is that I will overeat grapes or carrots. haha.

Also, I tried to replace rewards and celebrations with other activities. I also did this for the times that I'm bored or angry. If I'm bored, I'll start doing push ups or sit up while watching tv - or I go on Spark. haha. Automatically turns off the craving. If I'm angry, I simply take a walk. It lets me get some fresh air, it helps me think and I'm getting in some exercising when I need it the most instead of overeating.

I also have a VERY consistent exercise routine. I don't let myself waiver. No excuses. It's not "strict" per se, but it is consistent which means I will only not exercise if I am sick or injured. I don't let other engagements interfere with the time I have set aside for me to get healthy. That happened waaay too much in the past.

I hope all of this helps. It's also difficult when you're in school and your schedule is kind of crazy; however, it is NOT IMPOSSIBLE. So do what you can with what you have. That's all you can do
