Striving for Balance

I'm a grad student in my late 20s who loves running and yoga. While I've always been active, I am presently at the highest weight of my life due to overeating and bingeing. I'm what might be called "fit but fat".

My goal is to learn to eat more mindfully, practice portion control and have the motivation and discipline to make that into my habit, rather than overeating. In doing this I hope to lose weight as my body finds back its natural set point...

My Goals:
Long term: Learn to deal with my emotions in more constructive ways than emotional eating.

Lose about 20 lbs, but hard numbers aren't too important to me at this point; I trust my body will find a healthy weight once I stop resorting to behaviors like overeating and bingeing.

Short term: As many days as possible of mindful eating and no bingeing, trying to better fit into an old dress for my sister's graduation June 14, 2013.

My Program:
* Checking in here for accountability, community, support, motivation.

* Practicing staying positive, challenging negative self-talk, being kinder to myself.

* Tracking my food with approximate portions, but probably not calories.

* Trying to plan meals and portions beforehand.

* Practicing having mindful meals, e.g. not eating in front of the computer like I have been doing.

* Keep up my usual activities of running, yoga, etc.

* Regular weigh-ins to measure one aspect of progress.

I am wondering how your week went. I hope you had a decent week without the need to binge and a productive week on your studies. And I hope you found some time to get in wanted physical activity during this past week.

Wishing you had a good week, Steven

emoticon You're totally right about the B&W! Yeah, it's like I kept trying to paint something Technicolor but everything came out looking zebra patterned because I was too stubborn to accept that I ran out of pigment! D'oh.

Little by little, my friend, we'll chip away about these thought distortions, and we will win. Oh yes, we will.

I'm glad that we could share the laughs in my blog. Some days it seems like humor is all that we have left!

I hope that you are having a terrific week. ~ Trish
