In Search of Balance

I started on SparkPeople in February of 2008 because I wanted to be a part of a community that supported my goals to look and feel better, and I wanted the accountability and measurement tools that SparkPeople offers.

I reached my goal and maintained it for a while, lost my ground when I clerked in the summer of 2010 and made it all the way back to my goal for my wedding on 1/1/11

After taking the bar exam in summer of 2011, my body went through some changes and stopped responding to food and exercise the way that I had come to expect. Since the fall of 2011, I have been working to find a lifestyle balance that allows me to be healthy while tackling all of the challenges of my stressful job and active personal life. It hasn't been easy and change takes significantly more time than it used to, but I'm learning to persevere even when the numbers refuse to budge and learning to find inspiration in the things that I can't necessarily measure.

My Goals:
I like to call my work out and nutrition goals my "Hot Body Plan."

I want a tone and strong body that I am confident will carry me though life's adventures.

I want to eat smart but allow myself to enjoy the delicious delights of life.

I want to be active to help my mind and emotions as well as my body.

My Program:
I'm watching my calories and trying to eat as many whole food as possible. I'm cutting out most of the refined carbs in my life (which is tough as a sandwich junkie).

I am working out with a trainer twice a week during circuits and heavier lifting. In addition, I'm trying to fit fun cardio in 4 days a week. Zumba, the elliptical, bike riding, workout videos, whatever will fit in my life. I've also started adding pilates to the routine for stretching and lower impact strength.

Personal Information:
I live in Houston, Texas with my amazing husband and sweet dog. I am a fourth year attorney for a small office of a large law firm. I am very active in my church and love to travel.


Other Information:
I believe that Jesus is my Lord and savior and that the gospel is the answer to every question.

I'm an avid reader, a world traveler, a lover of good food and heart-to-hearts with friends new and old.

Thanks! A birthday in December is not the best but my family always made it a point to celebrate it in addition to the holidays instead of with the holidays.

hahaha my patience isn't great for more than maybe two people. My food takes me maybe 10 minutes to make. Simple simple is how I like to keep it. And easy. A porkchop will cook in 3 minutes maybe, if that. It makes you mentally feel better about what you're eating, that's for sure.
