Because I Deserve It

I'm Kaitlyn, a 22-year-old medical student who's finally practicing what she'll soon preach, in choosing to live an active and healthy lifestyle. I have always considered food to be one of my greatest pleasures in life, but in the past, my relationship with food has largely been one of excess and overindulgence. Now I still maintain my love of food; however, I am far more careful with what kinds of food I choose to enjoy, and I am far more respectful of what my body needs. And now, after 22 years of saying that I didn't have an athletic bone in my body, I have discovered a new love: running. My morning run is one of my favorite things I do all day, and running continues to show me how strong I really am. And after doing it almost on a whim, I can now say that I have run my first marathon, and I am already excited for my next. My eventual goal is to qualify for Boston. For the first time in a long time, I feel healthy, balanced, and happy, and that's not changing any time soon.

My Goals:
Long-Term Goals:
-- To maintain 14-15% body fat.
-- To slowly gain more muscle mass and strength.
-- To qualify for the Boston Marathon.

My Program:
-- My diet is as clean and natural as I have time to make it, while including the occasional decadent treat. I generally eat between 1600 and 1800 calories a day, although I have really stopped meticulously planning my meals and now primarily rely on what my body craves and what feels right. After months of careful eating to train my body to want the right things in the right amounts, this method has become successful for me.
-- I run about 30 miles per week.
-- I strength train three times a week.

-- 5'2".
-- 98.8 pounds.
-- 14.6% body fat.
-- 1700 calories per day maintenance.

Thanks for dropping into my blog! I've had your running accomplishments in the back of my head since I read about them and started doing some running myself...I've been wondering if I could reach where you are someday...don't know if I can, but its a worthy goal.

Thanks so much for your advice! I'm trying to overhaul my diet a bit, definitely have to amp up my protein. And also, my sweet tooth can be a serious impediment at times! How do you manage your carb intake? I know the processed junk and "white foods" (i.e. white rice, white bread, white sugar) have to go, but have you also limited whole grains and fruits? Sorry to pick your brain, I guess I am just still in awe of your transformation, and hoping I can see results like yours some day!

Hey! Somehow I've ended up on your page, and I wanted to say that you look amazing! Your pictures and progress are so inspiring to me, especially since I'm also 5'2". Sometimes it seems impossible that I'll ever be able to achieve a lean and toned shape on this small frame. Seeing that you have done it gives me hope, and also motivation! It's one of my big goals for 2013 to drop body fat. Can I ask you where you started out with body fat%, and about how long it has taken you to get where you are now? I'm hanging out around 24% at the moment. Again, congrats on all of your success!

Hey there :) I hope you don't mind, but I have some questions for you! Like yourself, I'm very tiny... but unlike you, I am what I call "skinny fat" so I'm really trying to focus my energy on gaining muscle mass, while decreasing my body fat slightly. I've been told that I should be eating 2000 calories+ a day with lots of protein...but as a college student, I'm not really sure the best/cheapest way to go about this. What I'm wondering..is what sorts of things do you eat? And if you have any tips/ideas? I'd really appreciate any help you can give me! Thanks!! :)
