KLS - Taking Charge of My Health
Updated 2/8/11: A friend sent this to me - it was part of a chain e-mail but the message was so wonderful, I didn't want to lose or forget it: May today there be peace within. Updated 2/8/11: A friend sent this to me - it was part of a chain e-mail but the message was so wonderful, I didn't want to lose or forget it: May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Borrowed from another Sparker: Being fat is hard Being fit is hard Choose your hard ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My story: Among other things, I am working to prevent the onset of diabetes - a killer in my family. Sounds like a great goal, doesn't it? But truth be told, it's my more immediate needs that have spurred me on to make changes in my life and healthy goals. I decided last year, after a more than 30 year hiatus, that I wanted to take dance lessons - Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap - whatever I could find that worked into my schedule - with the ultimate goal being that I increase my skills enough to audition for local theatre - maybe. I also hoped that the looming threat of a dance recital would jumpstart better eating habits. Well, as you can see by the picture (see May 2010 Recital Photo in pictures), while my activity level increase, my eating habits remained the same or worsened ["Oh, look at all the exercise I've gotten this week - of course, I can eat [amounts omitted to protect the guilty] Meximelts, Mexican Pizzas and Chalupas"]. Then a friend sent me a link to an article in Sparkpeople. I should have been able to read the article from the e-mail without registering but for some reason I couldn't - the universe at work. The rest, as they say, is history. *********************** Inspiration from others (from AHEALTHIERME9's Page): "At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us." - Albert Schweitzer
