So, here it is January 2017.

I have gained and lost between 60-73 pounds in a short time frame about 5 times over the past decade or so, each time strongly motivated by a particular event or occasion (e.g. 73 pounds in just over six months for my Hawaiian wedding at left, about 70 in less than six months to qualify as a kidney donor for my brother 2 years ago).

And then the event or occasion passes, and so does my will to eat well and exercise regularly. And back comes the weight even more quickly than lost, bringing along a few more of it's friends with it each time...

And so here I am back at the starting line again. But I recently found a much-needed dose of inspiration in Tardis221B's blog about finding victory in her .6 pound loss...rejecting food deprivation and exhausting workouts in favor of enjoying life. I think that's key to what I've been missing in each of my previous weight-loss attempts, enjoyment.

So this time I'm going to do my best not to sprint for some unseen and perhaps ultimately unrealistic finish line, but just mosey along and try as much as possible to enjoy the ride. Slow and steady does indeed (eventually) win the race.
