Klassie's Journey

So I decided to start over, and what better time than the first of the year. I am aware that my past resulted in my present, but it does not have to continue into the future, so I thought I'd wipe the slate and begin anew.

So I decided to start over, and what better time than the first of the year. I am aware that my past resulted in my present, but it does not have to continue into the future, so I thought I'd wipe the slate and begin anew.

I work full-time and attend college part-time, and I might be one of the oldest students in my program. I recently became provisionally licensed in the State of Maryland as a professional counselor (LGPC). I also work 18+ hours weekly as a Mental Health/Substance Abuse Counselor Intern in a county intensive outpatient clinic, so my days are long and full. My goal is to receive my PhD in Pastoral Counseling and it will take at least another 3 years to achieve it. But that's okay, I'll get there.

I am struggling with my weight loss and am beginning to draw a parallel with my clients. I have determined that food is my drug of choice and must treat my eating as an addiction. I lost 20 pounds in the Spring, after which I seemed to have lost zeal. Each time I lose I gain it back faster than before. It's as if my body is welcoming the weight back with no resistance. I am still heavier now than I was when I originally started my SparkPeople journey, and I can distinctly remember the day when an illness knocked me off the path I was traveling. I got back on soon after, but then I did not resume my journey. In fact I stayed at the same spot for a while before I eventually began to moonwalk. Soon I had reached my initial starting point, but I still did not stop. I continued to walk backwards, very much aware of the harm that I was doing to myself, yet refusing to stop. All the while I kept in touch with my Spark page, knowing that one day I'll return in mind as well as body. I pray that today is that day.

I am now the proud grandmother of two boys, Samuel and Jacob, and I enjoy being their grandma. I have two beautiful and talented daughters and a wonderful son-in-law. I consider myself blessed and highly favored, and I plan to show my gratitude by the way I treat my body. So I have restarted my journey on the SparkPeople circuit, and I pray that God will grant me the grace to do the things that are necessary to achieve the success that I seek.

My Goals:
To be able to walk 2 miles without pain. My ideal weight will require me to lose 100 pounds and I'm ready for the challenge.

My Program:
My program now relies heavily on nutrition since I'm not able to work out intensely.
However, I will exercise 35 minutes 5 days a week on the treadmill, and strength train 3 x per week.

Personal Information:
I live in Hyattsville, MD and am originally from Trinidad, West Indies by way of Brooklyn, NY. I have two grown daughters and two grandsons. In addition to a full time job, I am enrolled part-time in Loyola University Maryland's Pastoral Counseling program, and work 18 hours a week as a counselor in a mental health/substance abuse treatment center. I am working towards my PhD. Talk about a lifetime dream, or maybe a dream that is taking a lifetime, but I'm more than a conqueror so I'll be alright.

Other Information:
I am a blessed and highly favored Catholic who coordinate the lectors ministry at my church. I enjoy dancing, public speaking, writing and reading motivational material. My favorite verses of scripture are "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" and "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your path." Hebrews 11 is my favorite chapter in the Bible.
