Since joining SparkPeople in Janaury (2009) as a New Year's Resolution, I have been re-born! Not only have I lost 24 pounds, but I am in much better shape and have a sunnier outlook on life.

Last year was miserable. I had a painful colon surgery and my teeth and bones were weakening. Additionally, I gained a lot of weight and was not exercising regularly.

Now I have taken control of my health and feel fabulous! The nutrition tracker has really helped me not only to regulate my calorie, fat, protein and carb intake, but I also set it to show my fiber and calcium intake. Keeping track of these values has helped me to get enough fiber to keep my digestive system healthy and enough calcium to improve the quality of my tooth enamel and stop bone loss. I believe that the increase in fiber and calcium has also played a role in my weightloss.

I now exercise several times per week, including both cardio and weight training in my routine. I can no longer lift heavy weights like I did when I was younger, but I still lift enough weight to keep my bones and muscles strong. During the hot Arizona summer, my cardio consists of walking at the mall and an occasional swim. During the other seasons, I love to hike and jog.

I have also discovered that I really enjoy cooking healthy meals and exercising, and I now look forward to each day with anticipation of great things!

Fitness Minutes: 43,646

My Goals:
1. Lose 23 pounds.
2. Tone my muscles.
3. Cook healthy meals 5X per week.
4. Eat 25-35 grams of fiber daily for colon health.
5. Consume 100-150% of daily recommended values of Calcium for my teeth and bones.


My Program:
1. Log all food eaten and stay within Spark's suggested values for calories, fat, protein and carbs.

2. Track intake of calcium and fiber using the Sparkpeople nutritional tracker.

3. Run and/or hike 4-5 times per week.

4. Do 100 crunches 5X per week, 50 pushups 3X per week and leg exercises 3X per week while watching tv.

5. Walk instead of driving whenever I am able.
