Journey into Life

Hi, I'm KittyF
I'm now 58, grandma of 5 and I've been on Spark people for 5 years.

I've got arthritis and diabetes that would both be made better if I lost weight. I was very weak when i joined but I'm stronger this year, and feeling stronger I think I should be able to start loosing weight instead of just hoping. so far, no weight loss to speak of, but I'm always working toward more functional fitness. Thanks for your comment on my page. I added you as a friend. I too, was 58 when I started my journey. I knew if I didn't do something I was going to end up needing a walker or even a wheelchair, as my weight was putting so much stress on my arthritic joints. When I first started walking down the road (the first night I only got to the end of my driveway and back up again, less than 2/10 of a mile), it hurt so badly. My knees, hips and back just ached. Every night, would always think, "I don't think I can do it tonight...." and then somehow I did. I set my sights down the road a little further every night....to this mailbox, or this tree, or this utility box (we live in an acreage development just outside of town). Ultimately I wanted to be able to walk ONE mile. When my pedometer showed that one mile, I was thrilled, but I didn't stop. I think that's the secret to weight loss and maintenance. We can never stop. Even when I hit goal weight, I just kept eating the same way and walking, and hopefully will hit two years at/below my goal weight on April 15, 2013. Two years....on my way to a lifetime of being a normal size!

Hi Kitty dear , Thank you for your reply .. I have a fitbit and there is no further payments involved thinking more on the lines of just a pedometer they can be bought at your local chemist quite cheaply .. .
Sending love and Hugs Susie emoticon emoticon

I try to keep the doctor visits down. The more I go the more he wants to see me. LOL. Sounds like you are eating great.

I'm struggling but finally got the exercise back right. I'm still working on the diet.
