Shared Food & Fitness Trackers
My name is Kathy, I'm in my 50's and have been dieting since high school. I've probably lost three or four hundred pounds in that span if not more. I'm very good at dieting....I must be...as I've done it so many times. Doesn't that make me a pro? I just lack in the ability of keeping it off, but i'm always willing to try a new way. So here I am, ready or not.
So I signed up on SparkPeople the end of July 2008 with a bunch of family members. Over the course of the next 10 months we all stayed with it, supported each other and did very well. I lost 80 pounds by the beginning of June 2009 and was feeling pretty good about myself. My sister had done fantastic and looked amazing and really had nothing left to lose. It was probably about that time that we all seemed to stop tracking food and exercise and my life was coming apart at the seams. I had just been to county court to get a divorce and city court to evict tenants not paying rent. I had no idea how I was going to get through life, make ends meet or keep my home. Once again I turned to food. Over the course of the next year, by June of 2010 I had gained it all back and was still struggling with my life. I continued to work out my problems as stressful as they were and eventually i started making headway. In May of 2011 my daughter and daughter in law asked me to join them again on SparkPeople. Knowing I didn't like the weight I was at, it was easy to say yes. So I started over again, setting a smaller goal then I did the first time I used SparkPeole. I had a wedding coming up in October and wanted to lose 70 pounds by then, and I made it. Next I set a goal to just lose 20 pounds by the end of the year. I made that goal as well. Since then I've kept my goals no more than 20 pounds. It has now been 14 months since I started my last weight lose journey and have lost a total of 130 pounds with SparkPeople and counting. I'd still like to lose another 10 or 15 pounds. I was 305 pounds at my highest weight in 2008 and had lost 10 pounds before joining SparkPeople, so my actually total weight lose to date is 140.
It hasn't all been easy and I've worked very hard at it. Constantly pushing myself forward, as my daughter and daughter in law dropped out just 2 weeks into our return trip to SparkPeople as they were struggling with their own demands. I'm happy to say they are back now and doing well.
I found that the more I stayed with it, the more I wanted it, and the more I wanted it, the easier it was to stay with it. I have talked to myself a lot. "You can do it" "Just 10 more minutes, keep going" "You've had enough to eat today, tomorrow will be here very soon" I said good by to each ten pounds I lost. "good-bye 290's, I'll never see you again" "good-bye 280's I'll never see you again"...all the way down....it helped me to remember not to ever go there again.
All this didn't happen at once that is for sure...I started out only working out 30 minutes 3 times a week. Now I work out every day 1 to 2 hours....and I love it. My diet changed slowly over time too...I eat mostly fruits, vegetables, and very little meat, no red meat at all. I have found other sources for Protein like egg whites, yogurt, fish, shrimp, nuts, and even chia seeds.
The best reward of it all is how good I feel, and of course getting the new clothes. I even enjoy trying them on at the store in front of the mirror. There are so many choices when you are in a regular size. The only regret is that I don't have a pair of fat pants as a reminder. I was wearing a size 28 pair of stretch pants, I have no idea what size I stretched them to. Last week I bought my first pair of 12 shorts. Unfortunately that may be as small as I can get, as I've been left with a huge hunk of skin hanging off the front of my lower belly that I have to tuck into my clothes. So I wear a lot of black to hide the lump in the shadows. One day I hope I can afford to have it removed... but until then no bikinis for me.
Just a little follow up in case you were wondering: I did lose my home of 33 years as my ex ran out on all responsibility, but thank goodness I was able to do a short sale and the bank forgave me of the debt. I was able to move into the home I was renting out and that bank put me into the affordable housing program so that I could stay. I had a lot of people saying prayers for me and I thank them all. So my weight lose and my life came together all within the same period of time. Now I'm a brand new me with huge reminders why not to go back. I'm done, I'm here to stay.
Keeping between my calorie range of 1200-1550
