Hi! I'm Kirsten. I'm an active wife, mom and pharmacist who is seeking to develop a healthy balance with my nutrition, exercise and weight. I want to have a healthy attitude towards food and to be able to enjoy all things in moderation. I love to work out--my current exercise obsession is Zumba !! (previous ones have been: running, swimming, skiing (downhill and cross-country), aerobic classes of all kinds, Tae Kwon Do, biking, roller-blading, Curves, elliptical trainer). I've lost weight successfully with Weight Watchers and Weigh Down Workshop. Now I'm taking what I've learned from all of the above to develop my own individual exercise & wt loss program, with the support of others in this online community!!
I am trying to be a more fit, slim and attractive 40+ woman. Trying to get away from the "dumpy middle-aged" look. LOL!
Wt goal-135 lbs
Starting wt-155 lbs
My exercise goals:
Cardio: 4-6 times per week. (Zumba and elliptical 30-60min)
Strength training: 3 times per week (abs and upper body machines)
Well, I need to eat normal portions and less SWEETS!!!
I live in Maryland, near Washington DC
Occupation: pharmacist for a large retail chain
Hobbies: Knitting, reading, learning Spanish, mission trips to Latin America,
chatting with new friends online!

Kirsten, I'm writing to tellyou that I appreciate the time and effort you put in on this board. I've really learned a lot from reading your advice to others. I just got licensed in Jumpstart Gold - for a lot of the same reasons you originally did. I am little older - 53 - but in good shape and really love Zumba, been doing it for over 3 years at my gym. I also have a demanding full time management job so Zumba is my "hobby" and major stress-reliever. Not ready to teach just yet, but I am getting great advice/tips from this board. Thanks!

Thanks for all your advice about being a future zumba instructor. It was very helpful. I added you as a sparkfriend. I think I have read every thread on the zumba instructors team pages! they have all been so helpful. I just got finished reading the thread about zumba instructors taking your class. Very interesting. You know, I stand in the front right behind the instructor for every class. I do it because I want to follow them step by step. Doing the choreography correctly is very important to me. I'm a little "obsessed". It also makes it more challenging. I can see how it would be very distracting to the instructor and other students if the person behind the instructor was doing their own thing. That is something I learned and will take with me tonight when I go to class. Don't upstage the instructor! The only time I want the other students to watch me is when my instructor stops to tie her shoe. which she does every class!! She then says, just watch Tina, while I tie my shoe!! (the girl needs to double knot those shoes)!!! Not sure why I'm telling you all this, I guess I just wanted to let you know that I liked the discussion you all had. Take care, Tina

Yes, a 5K and a Zumba demo in one day and then I wondered why I was so tired the next day! I wrote a blog about liking challenges, but I don't like wearing myself out and am trying to figure out how to pace myself better. But yet, when opportunity knocks? I do think though that if I could increase the class sizes and made more money that I could say "no" a lot easier to so many sewing jobs and that would relieve some of the stress of fitting so much in each day.
Zumba Love, Michele
