I live on the North Shore of Long Island and work right up the hill at a great hospital. My daughter is in elementary school and my son just graduated from U of F... go gators. I have a loving husband and a great life
I love to read and can be found blogging on the Goodreads site.
Kim, I am finding relief from using a mouth guard at night as well as eating soft foods. My doctor prescribed Arthrotec (anti-inflamatory) as well as flexeril (muscle relaxor). I've never been given a pain pill and I have degenerative TMJ. It's severe, and won't get better. So by choosing softer foods, not eating foods that are sticky or chewy (popcorn, apples, raw carrols, thick sandwiches, NO chewing gum, etc) it has helped. I don't take my Arthrotec anymore and only take a flexeril on ocassion.
Exa of food choices: I eat yogurt for breakfast and a shake made with HMR & banana, rather than cereal OR bacon - who'd ever have thought it'd hurt to eat bacon - well it kills me! When it's bad I can't even eat a salad, but soups are fine and thin sandwiches are ok. Fish is soft, steamed veggies are good. Just have to give it a try.
Good luck to you to. I think without changing the types of foods I eat I'd still be like you. I hope something here helps cause TMJ is so painful.
Here on SP there are many ways to encourage us into fitness. A Virtual Race is one way that I came across this April. After practicing a week for my first 5K (3.1 miles) I got it done. It was such a satisfying feeling but more than that, I needed a goal to keep me going week after week so I decided to join one each week this Spring. A virtual race is one that you do on the treadmill. Post your time for your age group on the race wall (search for it...I'll see if I can find the link for you.) And that's it! I only do walking but you can do walk/run or running, etc. You choose. I walk 1 or 2 miles everyday to "train" for it, with one day off each week for recovery. My body shape is really changing and I believe it is due to this workout. I am losing 1-3 pounds a week too. You should try it. I will post the link soon. Let me know if you have questions. Hugs Beth
