Healthy Livin'

Healthy Livin' makes everything better.

I'm a 31-year-old momma of two young children and I'm married to a hard-working hunk.

I stood staring, mortified, at the label on the only shorts that would fit me: size 20-22. For several years, I'd been a happy, albeit overweight, size 16. Hitting the 20s knocked me on my ass emotionally. My daughter was nearly two months old at that time, ...

The first spark:
May 2008, dressing room at local department store:
I stood staring, mortified, at the label on the only shorts that would fit me: size 20-22. For several years, I'd been a happy, albeit overweight, size 16. Hitting the 20s knocked me on my ass emotionally. My daughter was nearly two months old at that time, so I was still carrying baby weight, but I was far too big to blame it on baby.

With two children depending on me, I knew I had a responsibility to set a healthy example. I knew small steps would be the key to making it last forever, and I was more concerned with being healthy than with looking thin. I remember telling myself, "I don't care if I look this way forever, I just don't want to FEEL this way." And I didn't want my children to ever feel that way, either.

I lost about 30 pounds on my own from that moment until July 2008, when I discovered SparkPeople. With the support of Spark, I made even more lifestyle changes and I maintained 150 pounds for a year or so. I got down to around 145 for another year or more. I was comfortably wearing size 8 pants.

The summer of 2011 was full of emotional turmoil and I let it all manifest in my weight and lack of exercise. I expanded into a size 12 pants.

To rededicate myself to my health, I signed up and completed a half marathon in April 2012 (2:35). Still, for months after the race, I let old habits take over. July 2012, I started back, in earnest, with my original mantra of placing top priority on feeling good and being a healthy example.

So far, so good :)

LOL, I love my DVD collection! I'd never really part with any of it! I go through phases where I want to do a month of Jillian or Turbo Jam or Biggest Loser, Bob Harper, Jackie Warner.. you get the idea..
Thanks for letting me know on the Slim Down challenge in Nov. I think I'll pass as I'm trying to go through my collection before we're having our big move back to the US and are packing out a few weeks/months before! ;)

Have a great weekend! emoticon

Hey! Thanks for checking in on me and for the goodie! emoticon
Great job on your RI30, already week 4, awesome!!!

I'm back to using my FIRM workouts this month; most of them I haven't even done before -ever! LOL (I'm a fitness DVD addict, you'd say! emoticon )
I'm enjoying it! I'm also using more yoga and pilates back into my routine, I've missed it a lot! I'll be less online from now on, focusing back on my free time otherwise, so don't be alarmed if you don't hear from me for a while! I'll make sure to still check in with you though!! emoticon

Take care and have a great rest of your week!

Val

Thanks for the goodie! I am feeling much better today, back to normal. Now I just have to hope that the weight I lost while sick stays off (so far it has).

Have a great day!

Thank you so much for your words on my blog!!! I really needed to hear them!!! emoticon You're right, I should forget that darn scale and go by how I feel and my clothes.. Just like I *used* to do all those past months before!..
Makes me think I'd maybe also stop logging every bite that I eat as it makes me slightly 'obsessed' with numbers as well!..

How are *you* doing? I thought of you over the past week and was hoping you're feeling well and have enjoyed 30DS? emoticon

Thanks again for reading my blog entry and your words!!!

I just posted my results blog! I don't know if I'll post the pics or not, depends on how they look since I'm wearing a tight tank top and trust me, it's not flattering.

I'm hoping to have the same kind of results with RI30. That would be awesome! I just got home a little while ago so I think another late night workout today.
