recapturing my life; my passion; my personality

It's been a rollercoaster ride all these years; sometimes literally since I used to work at amusement parks. I am going to attempt to settle into middle-age.

HA! Who am I kidding I'm not settling anywhere and don't want to "act my age" for sure!

I love color! I love unique and quirky and creative and the obscure... whether it be my hair, personality, gifts or gadgets.

don't be boring

Hi, Kim --

Sorry you were unable to access my profile. I've edited a bit and maybe it will work now. I'm still learning how to navigate this site.

Thanks for getting back to me. How does a natural approach work? Are you talking diet & exercise -- or do you do some supplements that help? My guy is a chiropractor and all the psych meds really annoy him; he hates to see people get super-medicated, even though he's seen me symptomatic and understands that I'm better with the meds. Is there another way to go besides chemicals? What do you do? (I'll check this page for a response in case you can't write on my page.)

Happy Spring --

Chris

CGROSSMAN i can't get to your profile .. so hopefully you see this

shortest version is from the time of being diagnosed w bipolar and was on dozen different meds that first year ... gained 50+ pounds .... then lost about 30 of it while walking a mile to and from work in Cali .... then mental breakdown.. then bad shrink ... sedentary life ... ballooned up to almost 300 ... then off all meds and found this site and went thru mental h-lls left best undescribed ... and the recipes on this site helped me eat better ... started walking .. etc ... tried some meds may of 2013 and was suicidal within days of taking them ... now am going more natural route ... but no not sober route ... some of issues aren't completely resolved .. but i am keeping the weight off even with occasional drinking or junk food .. mainly with regular healthy eating and daily minimal walking and want to add strength training etc ..

Hi, Kim --

My name's Chris. Your success story stopped me (unlike ANY I've ever read in "Wt. Watchers'" mag) because I have Bipolar I as well. My shrink blames some of my weight on Risperdal and/or Depakote; did you find that to be the case (if you have used either of those)? I read an autobio. of a woman with an especially severe form of the illness, worsened by her alcoholism, and she really swore by exercise. I'm trying to do more of that. (No booze probs for me, tho'!) The meds, although I've been taking various ones since about '98, are starting to worry me, because my mom, a stroke survivor, died of non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver as a result of all the medications she took. There's been some indication of liver issues in my recent blood work. How much weight did you lose before your meds began to be lowered in dosage, if you wouldn't mind sharing the info? This would be the biggest motivator in the world for me.
