Hi. I finally have a little more leisure time in my life -- first time ever! -- and I've decided to use it to make getting into excellent health my number one priority. I'd like to lose about 30 pounds and increase my stamina. My husband and I are avid hikers, and I'd like to be able to go uphill longer without getting winded. I've always been an exerciser, so I'll have to gear up to see a change. My problem is that I love to eat, pretty much anything and everything. Portion control and ...

Portion control and limiting desserts will definitely be my stumbling blocks.

I'd love to give advice on your move! What kind do you want? Be prepared to be out of your comfort zone for a bit, but if you can handle that (and it seems like you're ready for an adventure) then you'll have a great time.

One thing I would recommend, if you haven't done it already, is to be in contact with someone who has moved to New Zealand from somewhere else. There are always things (spices, pharmacy items, favorite do-dads) that are hard to obtain in other countries. For example, I stocked up on antibiotic cream in the States, since you need a prescription to get it in most parts of Europe. And ibuprofen (Advil) is sold here, but in boxes of 20, so I brought a 500 pill bottle with me; saves lots of money. It's usually the small things, that you don't realize, that cause the most stress!

One thing we did with this move, which has been a major convenience, is to keep an American bank account, Visa, and an American billing address. (You can even buy an American phone number with Skype, which really confuses people when they call the American number, and you are overseas!) Thank goodness, my sister isn't planning on moving anytime soon, and agreed to forward mail to us; it helps having a US account to make purchases with companies that don't accept foreign credit cards or foreign addresses!

That's all I can think of at the moment. Ask away if you'd like more info, although never having been to New Zealand, I'm sure there are things there that would be useful to know!

So when do you move? My husband is dying to move to Asia at some point, so maybe we'll be closer to New Zealand. For now, living in Europe, and I enjoy getting out of the U.S. every few years. Makes me appreciate the U.S., and wherever I'm living, even more!

Take care.
