Kelly's Journey

In 2001 I was invited to go to Guatemala to volunteer at a mission serving people with disabilities. I had to say no to the invitation because I knew that I was too fat and too unhealthy to do the physical aspects of the work that needed to be done.

A friend invited me to a Weight Watchers meeting in July 2003 and I found my answer! I found freedom and success! I found I have a wonderful metabolism that needs nourishing foods! After over 4 decades of struggling I was finally ...

After over 4 decades of struggling I was finally able to start really living the adventure that God created me for!

I discovered that I was not really living as an active participant in life, but as a spectator. Now I participate in all of my life: I no longer say no when my children ask me to go hike mountains with them, I say yes to volleyball games, I join my husband for golf, I raise money for causes I believe in by running in races and by bicycling, and I have been to Guatemala 3 times and I have had grand adventures there!

I lost ove 100 pounds with Weight Watchers and discovered the person God created me to be! Now I am really living! Some weight has come back on (40 lbs) due to injuries in a bicycling accident and poor choices, but it is leaving!

It's all part of the adventure!

So appreciated your comment on my blog. I, too, would self-destruct if left to my own devices. Perfection is not a possibility, but moderation IS POSSIBLE -- with the help of the Holy Spirit. Thanks for reminding me of that!!

From reading your sparkpage I saw you are interested in missions. My brother-in-law goes to Guatemala regularly, and has also had many adventures there! And my husband and I were missionaries in France for 24 years.

I'm also a past WW person. I joined French Weight Watchers because everyone in France is thin and after the birth of my 3rd child I tipped the scale at just over 200 pounds. Being overweight was not a good testimony in France! I lost 66 pounds and have kept 45 of it off for over 10 years. But I live knowing that it would not take me long to go back to 200+.

So I am continually learning to depend on God to strengthen my self-control. And learning to enjoy His presence to meet my emotional needs instead of burying them in food. He is the "secret" of Life!

Thanks for your comment on my blog, Kelly.
I do like outdoor "chores"... a hold-over from when I used to live on a farm. Unfortunately, I no longer have the energy to work for a couple of hours, then go for a bike ride. Must work up to that!
All the best! emoticon

The next day had obstacles but I made it. I just kept praying until I had a breakthrough.
