Hello my name is Justin; I am a 34 yld father or three. I first had issues with my weight in my early 20s after having an incident that put me in the hospital and forced me to stay inactive for the better part of a year. Since that time I have lived the definition of the yoyo diet, gaining and losing massive amounts a weight.

The first time, in 1998, I lost around 60 pounds by just staying hungry and eating only one very small meal a day. We all know this wasnt going to stick and within a year or so I gained the 60 pounds and then some back.

By 2002 I was married and my wife asked me to see a nutritionist. Soon after I went to a nutritionist I went on a proper diet and learned what it was I should and shouldnt be eating. I also learned the importance of journalizing my meals. I really got into it and got into the best shape of my life. I lost ~110 pounds was lifting weights five days a week and doing cardio three days a week (running 5 miles). I went from 280 to 170 and before it was over I was even on the verge of getting a six pack. The only issue was that I went a little overboard and got a little obsessive. This led to my wife getting sick of it all, she then went on to say you look just fine, why cant you just eat what the family eats now. So after about a month of nagging and eventually burning myself out at the gym, everything stopped. It was only another two years before I was back up to 290.

In 2004 I was on the verge of a divorce and began to lose weight even though I didnt intend to. After losing ~60 pounds through depression I pulled myself together and started taking care of myself. Realizing that I was single and that I needed to look better if I ever wanted to meet someone else, I started doing cardio again (~3 times a week) and lowered my calories. I got to aggressive this time though and pushed myself by not eating enough calories though the day. After nearly losing all the weight (losing 100 pounds and getting down to 190) the wife and I patched things up. Soon I was comfortable in my old lifestyle and got heaver than ever, 330 pounds.

Well, this latest journey started around Sep of last year. I started off at 330 and was depressed and disgusted with myself. This time I decided to do things right from the beginning. The first thing I wanted to fix was my sleeping issues. With the extra weight on me I was snoring, so after visiting the sleep-lab here in town I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. After getting my cpap (I hated that thing, but it helped me sleep so I used it) I tried to start losing weight. At first things went well and I lost 30 pounds. Though, I lost steam and life got in the way and I gained it all back. Then around January of this year the wife and kids went off to visit their grandparents and I spent a good two weeks by myself thinking about life and how I felt about how I looked and felt. When they came back I felt ready to really get going on changing my life. I started lowering my calories and monitoring what I ate. I also began going back to the gym and walking on the treadmill. By June I had lost 60 pounds found Sparkpeople and was doing well but things were about to change.

On June 10th I was served divorce papers and this put my diet in overdrive. To get this fixed I went to go see a Soc worker. He was very helpful though the beginning stages of the separation. To be honest though, I wasnt able to get things under control mentally until I discovered meditation. Meditation has helped keep me calm and focused since discovering it. While my personal issues havent changed my outlook on them has. Now four months later I am down to 201 and still working on getting the last 16 pounds off. I feel good about myself and my situation and am focusing on getting it right this time with proper maintenance. The Sparkpeope tools have been outstanding and make me feel that this time it is truly different.
