Love the Journey

Life is hard. My life has had its ups and downs, which everyone has. I became an emotional eater during the tough times. It was there when I had a bad day, wanted a “treat” to celebrate something good or was just bored. My weight has always been a constant struggle with me.

Life is hard. My life has had its ups and downs, which everyone has. I became an emotional eater during the tough times. It was there when I had a bad day, wanted a “treat” to celebrate something good or was just bored. My weight has always been a constant struggle with me.

About three years ago I was introduced to Sparkpeople. I started using it and had great success. The support and guidance from Sparkpeople allowed me to find resources to get my eating habits back on track. I was able to successfully train myself and complete my first 5K run. In the process I had lost almost 50 pounds. I was so proud of myself after completing the 5K that I felt I deserved a little break for achieving my initial goals. Unfortunately, I fell back into the rut. Healthy living is a lifestyle, not a checklist that you can finish.

Since my 5K three years ago, I have gained back all of the 50 pounds I had lost and then a little more. I am out of shape and unhappy in my skin. People who look or know me would not know my struggles and lack of self confidence. I need to change my life. I have had many significant changes in the past year and many times I have had to eat my pride. Five years ago I would have never planned for me to be in the situations I am, but life throws the curve ball and you need to figure out how to adjust.

The big changes for me are moving back into my mom’s home after being on my own for about six years, including college. I have taken a new job working as an athletic trainer in inner city high schools (I have no experience working in or with inner city youths). I have also been working on completing my Master’s degree through a comprehensive 12-month online program. Needless to say I have had many adjustments to make with a full load. When time was tight and I needed to cut something it would generally be “taking me time” that was cut.

I am back and I have new goals and challenges I want to tackle. Some of the goals are from before that I met, but have since failed to continue meeting and some a new challenges to achieve. I am hoping to use Sparkpeople to help me foster an online support network and motivation. I plan to journey my path through workouts and training to achieve my goals. I also hope to inspire others to achieve their goals as well.

My goals 2011:
Complete my first triathlon (Race Date—August 7, 2011 IronGirl Race @ Onieda Shores (Cicero, NY).
Become more efficient in my workouts.
Achieve healthy eating.
Lose weight (Goal weight loss—75 to 100 pounds) and keep it off.
Be able to run the Mountain Goat (10 miles) in 2012 race.
Increase my upper body and core strength.

Inspire others.
Become financially independent.
Develop a security savings account.
Improve myself confidence.

If you follow my journey you will find many quotes interjected. This is something that helps to motivate me and maintain the positive outlooks in the greyest situations. As my page states…Love the Journey.

My program uses a lot of what SP offers. I use the nutrition tracker to monitor what I eat. I measure everything.
I have begun the C25K program. Therefore I am doing the C25K workouts at least 3 times a week then I am trying to do additional cardio a few times a week.
I am working to design a lifting program for me. So far I have just utilized exercises from SP.
